Letter From Our Chairman<br />

I’ll be honest – I have a problem. We<br />

literally have so much going on that I simply<br />

do not have room in this article to go over<br />

everything. Could a <strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Commerce</strong><br />

have any better problem than that? I think<br />

not. I encourage you to take a few minutes<br />

to read this newsletter cover to cover. You<br />

will find in<strong>for</strong>mation on the many programs<br />

and events that we have coming up in the<br />

next several months. The attendance at all<br />

<strong>of</strong> our events and programs has been<br />

awesome. If you haven’t had the chance to<br />

Meet Your Board <strong>of</strong> Directors<br />

Kevin Knowles<br />

Berkeley Senior Services<br />

Kevin Knowles is Resource Development Director <strong>for</strong> Berkeley Senior Services which <strong>of</strong>fers a<br />

network <strong>of</strong> programs and services to enable seniors to remain independent, participating members<br />

<strong>of</strong> our community. In this role, he is responsible <strong>for</strong> building and directing BSS’s development <strong>of</strong><br />

resources to promote awareness <strong>of</strong> BSS programs, develop badly needed revenue sources such as<br />

donations, sponsorship, planned giving and bequests throughout Berkeley County. Additionally, he<br />

oversees the development <strong>of</strong> the agency’s volunteer program. Kevin brings over 20 years<br />

experience to BSS in resource development and community relations and is instrumental in<br />

developing and implementing BSS funds and volunteer development strategies <strong>for</strong> Berkeley County<br />

Seniors. Kevin has been involved with various volunteer agencies and committees including: <strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Commerce</strong> (Board <strong>of</strong><br />

Directors, Auction Committee, Golf Committee, Government Affairs/Transportation Committee and Leadership Berkeley<br />

Graduate), United Way <strong>of</strong> the Eastern Panhandle (Board <strong>of</strong> Directors), Common Purpose (Past President), Boy’s & Girl’s Club <strong>of</strong><br />

the Eastern Panhandle (Vice President), Berkeley Senior Services (Past President), Community Networks (Past Vice President),<br />

Berkeley Community Pride (Past Vice President), Region 9, Kiwanis, and several other committees. He is originally from<br />

Scranton, Pa. and has been in Martinsburg <strong>for</strong> seven years. Kevin also co-owns Day’ Javu and Dana’s Tuxedo, with his wife<br />

Dana, in downtown Martinsburg. Kevin and Dana have been married <strong>for</strong> 10 years and they have 2 children. Kevin enjoys his<br />

Irish roots and travels <strong>of</strong>ten to Ireland.<br />

Gail Moxley<br />

CNB Bank<br />

Gail is a native <strong>of</strong> the Eastern Panhandle. She attended Jefferson High School and Shepherd<br />

University. She has been in banking <strong>for</strong> the last 23 years and completed the WV Bankers Association<br />

School. Additionally, she served as an instructor <strong>for</strong> the WV Bankers Association <strong>for</strong> two semesters.<br />

She is currently a Vice President and Commercial Lender with CNB Bank. Gail is a board member <strong>of</strong><br />

the Martinsburg-Berkeley County <strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Commerce</strong> and was named 2008 Volunteer <strong>of</strong> the Year.<br />

She also has served on the <strong>Chamber</strong>’s Auction Committee, Golf Committee and is currently<br />

chairperson <strong>of</strong> the Expo Committee. Gail went through the Leadership Berkeley Class <strong>of</strong> 2005 and<br />

highly recommends to anyone who hasn’t participated. She was a board member <strong>of</strong> Community<br />

Networks Inc. from 2005-<strong>2010</strong>. In <strong>July</strong>, she will become President <strong>of</strong> the Martinsburg Rotary Club.<br />

She is vice chair <strong>of</strong> the Eastern Panhandle Single Family Ad Hoc Committee. In 2006, Gail was named<br />

Eastern Panhandle Board <strong>of</strong> Realtors Affiliate <strong>of</strong> the Year and Eastern Panhandle Home Builders Association Associate Member<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Year. Gail enjoys traveling with her family, the occasional round <strong>of</strong> golf and taking care <strong>of</strong> her two Labrador Retrievers.<br />

Gail is married to Jeff, and they reside in Charles Town. They have one daughter, Morgan Good, and they are the proud<br />

grandparents <strong>of</strong> four.<br />

Leadership Berkeley Business Day<br />

The <strong>2010</strong> class <strong>of</strong> Leadership Berkeley celebrated Business Day May 11 by visiting a variety <strong>of</strong> local businesses and hearing from<br />

individuals who are involved in bolstering the area’s local business economy.<br />

Leadership Berkeley started its day speaking with Stephen Christian, the Executive Director <strong>of</strong> the Berkeley County<br />

Development Authority, about the county’s business climate and upcoming area developments. The class then heard from<br />

Brad Hopkins from Firebrand Media about the benefits <strong>of</strong> using social media <strong>for</strong> the purposes <strong>of</strong> advertising a business on a<br />

budget, Layne Diehl, the Executive Vice President <strong>of</strong> the Martinsburg campus <strong>of</strong> Mountain State University about the<br />

university’s expansion to the Martinsburg Mall and Yogi Yoder, a business owner who operates the promotional company MY<br />

Promotions, LLC.<br />

Leadership Berkeley also got an inside look at the operations at Quad Graphics from Bill Klingelsmith and spoke with Christina<br />

Lundberg, the Center Manager <strong>for</strong> the Small Business Development Center, about some <strong>of</strong> the many strategies used to<br />

bolster small businesses. Randy Lewis, the Executive Director <strong>of</strong> Main Street Martinsburg, spoke with Leadership Berkeley<br />

about the ins and outs <strong>of</strong> operating a business in downtown Martinsburg be<strong>for</strong>e the class toured DeFluri’s Fine Chocolates and<br />

was treated to delicious truffles.<br />

Expo <strong>2010</strong><br />

If you haven’t signed up <strong>for</strong> a booth or table at the Expo <strong>2010</strong>, now is the time. Don’t <strong>for</strong>get you get an early bird discount price<br />

by signing up be<strong>for</strong>e September 3 rd . You can sign up by going to the <strong>Chamber</strong> website at www.berkeleycounty.org or by calling<br />

the chamber at 304-267-4841. Special requests <strong>for</strong> booth placements will be given on a first come first serve basis. This is our<br />

third annual Expo and we expect it to be the biggest and best yet! The event will be held again this year at the Martinsburg Mall<br />

from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, <strong>2010</strong>. Directly after the event, we will have an Exhibitors Mixer so<br />

participants are able to network with each other and make additional contacts. If you would like more in<strong>for</strong>mation on the Expo,<br />

plan to come to a free workshop on Wednesday, <strong>August</strong> 25 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn. It will be a great way to<br />
