The Central Zone is all waters draining into the Columbia River from Bonneville Dam up to <strong>and</strong> including the Deschutes River.<br />

Instructions:<br />

1. Read the Special Regulations for this zone. Special Regulations apply to specific bodies <strong>of</strong> water or portions <strong>of</strong> water within a<br />

zone. If specific references to a body <strong>of</strong> water, species, catch limits, length limits, seasons, or other specifications are not made in<br />

the Special Regulations for this zone, then Zone Regulations apply.<br />

2. Read the following Regulations for this zone.<br />

3. Always read the General Regulations, pages 5-12, which apply to all zones, for information about licenses; tags <strong>and</strong> permits;<br />

definitions; catch <strong>and</strong> possession limits; gear <strong>and</strong> bait restrictions; <strong>and</strong> harvest methods <strong>and</strong> hours, before going fishing.<br />

4. Emergency or permanent rules adopted since these rules were printed may supersede these regulations. Anglers may call ODFW<br />

headquarters or regional <strong>of</strong>fices at the numbers on page 4 <strong>of</strong> these regulations, or check the ODFW web site, www.dfw.state.or.us<br />

for these rules, or call 503-947-6000 during normal business hours.<br />

Regulations for this zone:<br />

Angling for all species is restricted to artificial flies <strong>and</strong> lures in streams. See exceptions under Special Regulations where use <strong>of</strong> bait<br />

is allowed.<br />

CENTRAL ZONE<br />

• 8 inch minimum length.<br />

• Only 1 trout over 20 inches in length may be taken per day.<br />

• No limit on size or number <strong>of</strong> brook trout from streams.<br />

• Rainbow trout over 20 inches are considered steelhead in streams<br />

that have a harvestable fishery on steelhead which include: the lower<br />

Deschutes River, Hood River, Herman Creek <strong>and</strong> Eagle Creek.<br />

• Salmon under 15 inches are considered trout, except coho salmon,<br />

which are always considered salmon regardless <strong>of</strong> size.<br />

• Closed to angling for bull trout except as noted under Special<br />

Regulations.<br />

• Kokanee included in trout limits except as noted under Special<br />

Regulations.<br />

• Angling restricted to artificial flies <strong>and</strong> lures in streams. See exceptions<br />

under Special Regulations where use <strong>of</strong> bait is allowed.<br />

• Closed for coho salmon, except for coho salmon as listed under the<br />

Deschutes River (Sections 1 <strong>and</strong> 2) <strong>and</strong> adipose fin-marked coho<br />

salmon as listed under Eagle Creek, Herman Creek <strong>and</strong> Hood River.<br />

• Only adipose fin-clipped steelhead may be taken.<br />

• See Special Regulations in Central Zone under Deschutes or<br />

Hood River basins to determine where harvest <strong>of</strong> any Chinook <strong>and</strong><br />

unmarked or adipose fin-marked coho salmon is allowed. Harvest <strong>of</strong><br />

non-adipose fin-clipped steelhead is not permitted in the Central Zone.<br />

There is no annual limit on adipose or otherwise fin-clipped salmon<br />

or adipose fin-clipped steelhead so long as the appropriate number<br />

<strong>of</strong> Hatchery Harvest Tags have been purchased to record the catch.<br />

• Angling restricted to artificial flies <strong>and</strong> lures in streams. See exceptions<br />

under Special Regulations where use <strong>of</strong> bait is allowed.<br />

Note: Changes to salmon regulations for the Columbia River system<br />

are printed in May <strong>and</strong> are available at ODFW <strong>of</strong>fices or from license<br />

agents. Check for new regulations before you fish.<br />

• Angling restricted to one single-point, barbless hook for sturgeon.<br />

• Sturgeon may not be removed from the water <strong>and</strong> must be immediately<br />

released unharmed.<br />

• Angling restricted to artificial flies <strong>and</strong> lures in streams. See exceptions<br />

under Special Regulations where use <strong>of</strong> bait is allowed.<br />

• No more than 3 over 15 inches in length.<br />
