details and we have made request for funds which are required very very urgently for
relief and rehabilitation. So I certainly hope, Hon’ble Prime Minister that your government
will speed up the process that is concerned. Now, Sir, to the matters of extremism, in
the Street, the menace of left being extremism is a big challenge for Orissa and also for
our neighbouring states. We have of late substantially enhanced the State’s capabilities
in combating extremism. Police Stations have been fortified, manpower has been
augumented and better training facilities have been created. Over 15,000 posts have
been created in the Orissa police during the last 3 years, which is an increase of 30% of
our existing police force. Special operation group has been put in place to neutralize
the spread of extremist activities. I once again request the Government of India to
accept our long standing demand for deployment of four battalions of CRPF for at
least 2 years to assist us in our effort to end extremism. I would also like to add here,
Kandhamal the district where the communal violence has taken place is a very forested
area and the villages are at distance from each other, It’s a hilly area and it also has
extremist activity, Naxal Activity there. So this is all very important to do both with
communalism and with the extremism. We need financial and training support for
strengthening our special operational groups. So Sir, this is what I would like to say for
demands as far as terrorism or extremism as you call it, in the state of Orissa and again
as far as communal harmony, peace and calm is concerned. I think all of us, not only
State Government or the Union Government but all the people look in help in civil
society must come forward to help India and every part of India including obviously my
State as far as communalism and terrorism is concerned. Thank You Sir.

What I was suggesting is that all of us should enter a national dialogue for peace
not a debate but since you have put these questions to me. The Christians in district of
Kandhamal are more than a lakh. More than 20 thousand of them have gone at the
beginning due to the violence etc. to the relief camps. More than ten thousands of those
have started leaving the relief camps and returning. We have laws in this country when
you said about looking after the Minority community, looking after the law. Obviously,
I explained to you more than one thousand people have been arrested, the State is
taking stringent action, people breaking the law will be hunted down and punished for
breaking any law in our country. Thank you.
