repeat the same mistakes. First we targeted a particular section of the people within the
Hindu system the caste system. I have the great privilege and honour to command navy
where we did not distinguish – caste, creed, community, religion. We continue to
attach religion or caste for votes with electoral politics as indeed we have been doing
and actually honed it to such a fine art that it has become a very difficult to choose
whom to vote for. I would strongly recommend that. Although it is none of my
business to, except as a citizen to say, it is time that we did a audit of ourselves in our
conduct. Are we really doing right kind of things for that poor man or woman on the
street. Are we genuinely guided by Gandhi’s words. Is this action is going to help
one to wipe out the tear drops from his or her eyes. I don’t think so. I think we
need to go back to move forward and I would suggest that caste communal hatred,
targeting various communities on just religion, whether it is Sikhs, whether it is Muslims,
whether it is Christians, tomorrow it may be the Parsis and the only community
responsible for this, it is Hindus and I am a Hindu, only in name but I can say this
much that we have become very intolerent, very uncaring of human beings and just
imagine the poor tribals, the very poor Adivasis who have tremendous problems as it
is, and what we are going to do. Set up one set of tribes to fight against another set
of tribes. Reminds me of British Action after 1857 mutiny. They had setup Gurkhas
against the Sikhs, the Muslims against the Punjabis and the Punjabis against the Biharis
and that is how our regiments came into being. General Khanduri is here the Chief
Minister of Himachal. All I am trying to say, I am sorry – Uttaranchal, thank you sir, I
think without the cross roads if we don’t do something seriously about it, could be,
I think, and this requires a consensus of all political parties, its not just A, B or C, we
can not blame each one for the wrongs of the other. We are all to blame and my serious
request is please let us put our heads together, see what we can do, because a time
will come when we may find our country back to what it used to be with many little
kingdoms and fieldoms, with nobody, no chiefs and no Indians to rule. Thank you

Thank you sir, thank you. Hon’ble Prime Minister, Chairperson of the UPA,
other distinguished members of the dais and the audience.
On behalf of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), I would like to say that this
meeting of the NIC is being convened at the very critical moment in the life of our
country. The orgy of violence against the minority Christian community has continued
for weeks in Orissa, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and many other parts of the country.
