Ministers, Respected Chief Ministers, representatives from the States and Union
Territories and distinguished Members of this Council !
At the outset, I would like to compliment the Government of India, in
general and the Hon'ble Prime Minister, in particular, for convening the meeting
of the National Integration Council at this very opportune time. I feel privileged
to express the views of our Government before this august gathering.
My Chief Minister, Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda ji, could not attend this
meeting as he is abroad. However, he has conveyed his regards, good wishes
and greetings to all of you.
I would like to inform you that our Government in Haryana has pursued,
over the past three and half years, forward looking and people friendly policies.
There is all-round prosperity. In addition to the impressive economic growth,
we have maintained focus on improving the quality of life, enhanced
opportunities for better education and health, welfare of weaker sections,
minorities and marginalized groups etc.
I would like to specifically highlight some of the significant achievements
made by the State with regard to the agenda points circulated for the meeting.
1. Social Structure
Haryana seeks to create a fair and inclusive social structure by integrating
the vulnerable sections of the society into the mainstream through their economic
and social development. In addition, providing physical and emotinal secuity to
the weaker sections of the society is the prime focus of the state policy. The
State has taken a lead in addressing the basic needs of Scheduled Castes and
Backward Classes. The Hon'ble Chairperson of the UPA, Smt. Sonia Gandhi,
recently launched a novel scheme of giving 100 square yard plots to eligible
Scheculed Castes and Backward Classes (A) families on "Gandhi Jayanti". It is
expected that over 6 lakh Scheculed Castes and Backward Classes families
would be benefited under the scheme, at an estimated cost of Rs.2,300 crore.
Besides, financial assistance of Rs.50,000 is being provided to Below Poverty
Line Scheduled Castes families for construction of houses.
