made to empower the marginalized sections to lead a life of dignity and self
respect so that they become effective partners in processes of development.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the National Integration Council provides a forum
where we should find the strength to rise above narrow partisanship and divisive
politics. The Council needs to exert its immense moral authority on the nation
collectively to ensure that the pluralistic and secular foundations of our country
are nourished, maintained and strengthened. We need to isolate and fight those
who promote divisiveness. The common citizen in this country wants peace and
harmony in society. The common citizen of this country is not bigoted but generous
and compassionate and nurtured in a tradition of tolerance, intrinsic to all faiths
that now nourish our composite culture. Let us collectively endeavour to preserve
these values which the people of our country cherish. I thank you.
Home Minister
We would like to thank the Hon’ble Prime Minister for his thought provoking
address to this assembly. On the agenda, we have six subjects. Out of six subjects,
four subjects were given by the members of the committee which was constituted to
select the items for discussion in this meeting. There are two new items which are
included in this agenda for our discussion. I think it would be in the fitness of things to
allow the Hon’ble Members who have given these items to be discussed to make the
initial statements on these subjects and later on to leave the floor open to all other
hon’ble members, to make their statements on the topics mentined in the agenda together,
independently, jointly or in whatever fashion they would like to make. Mr Udit Raj is the
Hon’ble Member of the council, who was a member of the committee also and he has
given a topic to be included. I would like to request him to make a brief statement on
that.
