The FreeSpace <strong>Model</strong> <strong>16</strong> loudspeaker is new and different in these ways:<br />

• The enclosure has been completely redesigned to include new integrated mounting arms.<br />

• The speaker is constructed of PC/ABS plastic to create a lightweight, yet strong enclosure<br />

that meets all regulatory standards for combination evacuation and music systems.<br />

The <strong>Model</strong> <strong>16</strong> loudspeaker is ready to mount in a hard or tile ceiling right out of the box. Use of the<br />

tile bridge is recommended for most tile ceiling applications to distribute the weight of the speaker to<br />

the ceiling support structure.<br />

How do I install the FreeSpace <strong>Model</strong> <strong>16</strong> loudspeaker?<br />

After the hole is cut in the ceiling or tile, attach the input wires to the rear terminal. Fasten a safety<br />

cable to the seismic tab on the rear as necessary. Put the speaker in the opening and extend the<br />

three anchors with a screwdriver from the front baffle. After the anchors are tightened and the tap<br />

setting is adjusted, attach the grille.<br />

How do I pendant-mount the FreeSpace <strong>Model</strong> <strong>16</strong> loudspeaker?<br />

Using the optional pendant mount kit, connect the hanging cable with the supplied eye screws to the<br />

three hang points on the speaker. Slide the cosmetic surround onto the back can and suspend.<br />

Does the FreeSpace <strong>Model</strong> <strong>16</strong> loudspeaker meet the local codes for fire and evacuation<br />

loudspeakers?<br />

The FreeSpace <strong>Model</strong> <strong>16</strong> loudspeaker meets the United States local codes for installation in fire and<br />

evacuation systems. Specifically it meets these codes: BS5839 Part 8; NEN 2575; and IEC 60849.<br />

Can I use the FreeSpace <strong>Model</strong> <strong>16</strong> loudspeaker with other loudspeakers?<br />

Yes, you can mix the <strong>Model</strong> <strong>16</strong> loudspeaker with any other loudspeaker in a complete system, as<br />

long as there is no special EQ on the lines connected to the <strong>Model</strong> <strong>16</strong> loudspeaker.<br />

What bass speaker do you recommend for projects where extended bass response is<br />

needed?<br />

In systems where extended bass response is needed, the FreeSpace ® <strong>Model</strong> <strong>16</strong> loudspeaker can be<br />

used with the FreeSpace 3 Series II Acoustimass ® bass module. For wall mounting, you can use the<br />

bass module with its surface-mount accessory kit. You can also pendant mount the bass module with<br />

its optional pendant-mount kit.<br />

What are the connectors on the speaker?<br />

The connector is a three-position barrier strip with supervisory connections. The <strong>Model</strong> <strong>16</strong>EU loudspeaker<br />

has a three-position ceramic connector.<br />

What are the available tap settings?<br />
