KRAIBURG TPE
The FAKUMA trade fair from October 16 to 20, 2012 in Friedrichshafen will see TPE specialist
KRAIBURG TPE reveal yet more innovations on Stand 5303 in Hall B5. The new developments
include COPEC ® compounds for consumer electronics products, THERMOLAST ® V for
high-temperature applications, and the extended THERMOLAST ® M series for the medical
technology sector.
Waldkraiburg/Friedrichshafen, 16 October 2012. When visitors to the FAKUMA trade fair
for plastics processing visit the KRAIBURG TPE stand in Hall B5 (Stand 5303), they must
make sure they actually do touch the TPE materials! The benefi ts of the new COPEC ® series
are most fully appreciated and most impressively presented if you get a feel for the surface
yourself. COPEC ® products for consumer electronics have a real velvety feel, as well as
being resistant to skin lipids and many cleaning agents. Excellent adhesion to ABS/PC and
very good mechanical characteristics make top-quality end products.
Another highlight on the KRAIBURG TPE stand makes it easy to tackle the challenges presented
by high temperatures. THERMOLAST ® V compounds for applications in the automotive
and industrial sectors can cope with temperatures up to 140 °C and have undergone further
development for adhesion to PA. Unique on the market, THERMOLAST ® V offers excellent
compression set performance, thereby ensuring long-term application functionality.
Representatives from the medical and pharmaceutical technology sector will also fi nd interesting
solutions from KRAIBURG TPE at the trade fair, which the company will also be
showcasing in the „Plastics in Medical Technology“ Theme Parc in the west entrance foyer.
Enhancements to the THERMOLAST ® M range ensure excellent adhesion to PC and ABS,
thereby opening up a further area of application within this highly sensitive sector.
PRESS KIT
KRAIBURG TPE
There are products – especially in the entertainment electronics sector – which have to withstand
quite a lot. Permanent touching with bare hands, contact with skin oil, moisture and
other media leave their traces. Especially for such challenges, KRAIBURG TPE has developed
the material COPEC ® with its completely new haptics. COPEC ® compounds have a velvety
and silky touch and are at the same time highly resistant.
Waldkraiburg/Friedrichshafen, 16 October 2012. Surfaces, which are covered with the
new special-TPE COPEC ® , really seem to demand to be touched. With these innovative
compounds, KRAIBURG TPE succeeded to create a unique touch like „velvet and silk” for
the consumer. With it, products from the entertainment electronics sector, such as computer
mice, games consoles or earphones and also sun glasses, are clearly set apart from the
competition. People love to hold end products of this kind in their hands and use them frequently
for the duration of a product life. In May, KRAIBURG TPE received the European
Product Innovation Award 2011 for this new development from the market analysis institute
Frost & Sullivan in London.
Classy surface
The pleasant touch is not the only highlight of the new TPE. During the development of
COPEC ® compounds, particular care was taken to a high resistance against skin oil, sun
cream, olive oil and many chemical detergents. In addition, COPEC ® provides the end
products with a high-quality, dirt-resistant surface. The excellent fl owability of the material
is noteworthy as well. Through the combination of these properties, COPEC ® is the perfect
material for the surface fi nishing of cases.

02 | COPEC ® - A pleasantly soft touch
Easy processing
TPE from the COPEC ® series are produced in the economical multi-component injection
moulding process. The excellent adhesion to various thermoplastic materials such as ABS,
PC or ETP as well as the very good mechanical values ensure the best quality of the end
product. With a great color stability, the compounds can be colored in-house in various
shades – depending on the customers‘ demands.
For-Tec E from KRAIBURG TPE: Chemical resistance and polyamide adhesion
Ideal for permanent use
Fakuma 2012
PRESS KIT
KRAIBURG TPE
At FAKUMA 2012, KRAIBURG TPE presents a product innovation which does not allow to be
destroyed easily. The compound series For-Tec E provides an optimal adhesion to the hard
component and a high chemical resistance. Therefore, For-Tec E is especially suitable for
the application in 2-component seals for the electronics or also for handles of power tools.
Waldkraiburg/Friedrichshafen, 16 October 2012. Plugging in. Unplugging. Replugging
again. Greasy fi ngers, sun cream or rough site conditions. In many consumer applications,
TPE-coatings have to withstand a lot of things. Thus, especially plug connections and seals
in the entertainment electronics sector are exposed to continuous maximum stresses and at
the same time have to remain fl exible to a certain degree. Also for power tools, robustness
and at the same time a good feel are important, so that the user can work with it precisely
and durably.
Those, who presume that TPE-components are too sensitive for it and peel off the surface
easily, are far off the mark: particularly for these cases, KRAIBURG TPE has introduced
special compounds to the market: For-Tec E is processed via time- and cost-saving injection
moulding and adheres securely to semi-aromatic polyamides and polyarylamides as well
as to polyamides such as PA 12, PA 6 and PA 6.6. At the same time, the high mechanical
values and the excellent processability ensure the desired quality of the end product. The
compounds are available with a hardness degree from 60 to 80 Shore A and can be colored
in-house depending on the customer’s requirements.

03 | For-Tec E - Ideal for permanent use
It remains, as it is.
The TPE-series For-Tec E also features a particularly high resistance: Neither sweat, skin oil,
olive oil, sun cream nor chemicals such as acetone or other detergents are able to destroy
the material. Furthermore, For-Tec E remains intact when exposed to weather infl uences as
well as UV-radiation and ozone and is therefore ideal for permanent use of electronics or
for high-quality grip surfaces. As KRAIBURG TPE does not use Latex, PVC or heavy metals
for the production of the compounds, there is no danger for health at all.
Even up to blood contact
Fakuma 2012
PRESS KIT
KRAIBURG TPE
With the product series THERMOLAST ® M, KRAIBURG TPE offers a TPE-solution for the
application in the medical and pharmaceutical market. The compounds have recently
been certifi ed according to DIN ISO 10993-4, which means that they are approved for the
processing up to the direct contact with blood or medicine. This and the fi rst-time possibility
of coloring compliant to medical standards result in completely new applications for
THERMOLAST ® M.
Waldkraiburg/Friedrichshafen, 16 October 2012. Products of manufacturers in the medical
technology sector are subject to the strictest quality and approval criteria and thus also
their supplier products. The thermoplastic elastomers from the THERMOLAST ® M portfolio
from KRAIBURG TPE meet the high demands of the medical and pharmaceutical sector
for customers all over the world and have all certifi cates of the current approvals in the
medical technology sector. The THERMOLAST ® M compounds are certifi ed according to
DIN ISO 10993-5, -10, -11, USP Class VI, USP 661 and just recently to
DIN ISO 10993-4. The latter allows the processing up to the liability risk of direct contact
with medicine and blood. Therefore, these compounds‘ area of application has been crucially
expanded. They are now also used for septa, infusion and syringe plugs, seals and
medical tubes.
The highest purity of the raw materials and consistent product quality are guaranteed
through a separate product line for THERMOLAST ® M. Therefore, a contamination with
other products or raw materials is impossible. Furthermore, all materials are free from latex
and phthalates. If there are changes, for example, if a raw material is no longer available,
the customer will be informed at least two years in advance.

04 | THERMOLAST ® M - Even up to blood contact
User-friendly and economical
In comparison to other plastics such as ABS or PC, compounds of the product series
THERMOLAST ® M offer improved sliding properties. For applications demanding a low
coeffi cient of friction such as insulin pens or syringe plungers, the “low friction“ series
MT/LF is used, for instance. The material provides excellent sealing properties and still
allows exact dosing without slip-stick-effect.
THERMOLAST ® M compounds are available in hardness degrees from 30 to 70 Shore A
and allow manufacturers of products for the medical and pharmaceutical technology to process
them via cost-saving multi-component injection moulding. In this process, the materials
establish adhesion to PE, PP, PC, ABS or PC/ABS. THERMOLAST ® M is a non-crosslinked
TPE. Therefore, there is no risk that chemical bonds arising during the crosslinking migrate
into the medical medium. The compounds can be gamma-sterilized and are suitable for
steam sterilization up to 134 °C.
Fillers such as chalk are not used. This results in translucent and transparent compounds
which allow an easy quality control at end products. At KRAIBURG TPE it is possible to color
the THERMOLAST ® M compounds individually. Our in-house coloring department gives
the material exactly the color you prefer.
Fakuma 2012
PRESS KIT
KRAIBURG TPE
KRAIBURG TPE has further developed the classic TPE THERMOLAST ® V just in time for Fakuma
2012: The highly heat-resistant compounds, which are used especially in the industrial
and automotive sector, now feature reliable adhesion with polyamide (PA), which opens up
diverse new areas of application.
Waldkraiburg/Friedrichshafen, 16 October 2012. Thermoplastic elastomers are ideally
suited for automotive and industrial applications, because the numerous components of
the interior, the body and the engine compartment can be produced quickly and cost-effectively
using the multi-injection moulding process. This remains the “top league” of potential
applications, since TPE components need to have a long life despite high loads and high
temperatures. The product group THERMOLAST ® V from KRAIBURG TPE fulfi ls exactly these
criteria. The compounds withstand temperatures up to 140°C while displaying very good
mechanical properties. To ensure long-term resistance to the dynamic and static loads such
as those required of seals in automotive and technical applications, the material features
outstanding compression-relaxation properties as well as convincing hysteresis behaviour.
Reliable adhesion
Extraordinary adhesion to the hard component is frequently a decisive criterion especially
in automotive and industrial applications. THERMOLAST ® V compounds of the GP/LP
series adhere reliably to polypropylene (PP) in combination with a 2-component injection
moulding process. Just in time for Fakuma, KRAIBURG TPE presents the LP/CO/PA series,
which now also enables excellent adhesion to polyamide (PA).

05 | THERMOLAST ® V - Now with PA adhesion
Long-term power
The outstanding compression set and also the long-term thermal stability of
THERMOLAST ® V guarantee long-term functionality of applications. Captive seals can be
moulded directly onto the polyamide, for example, so that they withstand even the high
temperatures of the engine compartment. THERMOLAST ® V is also used in exterior areas:
The compounds of this product group are resistant to polar media such as water, acids and
bases, and the material also features good UV and weather stability.
The secret
Now, what makes THERMOLAST ® V compounds so resistant to temperatures and
media? The secret is in the composition: The compounds belong to the material class
TPV (SEPS + PP) and are based on cross-linked SEPS. The chemical cross linking of
the polystyrene end blocks results in signifi cantly higher stability, which also makes
THERMOLAST ® V compounds more durable than other comparable thermoplastic elastomers.
