cont ent. Ten regional Barakar coal<br />

seam / zones (Seam I to X, in<br />

ascendi ng order) have been<br />

intersected b etween th e depths <strong>of</strong><br />

45.37 m and 457 .18 m. The<br />

important seams are Seam – I, IV,<br />

VI, VII and VIII with cumulative<br />

thickness <strong>of</strong> coal ranging from less<br />

than a meter to 10.46 m. Seam IV<br />

is the thickest seam and was<br />

intersected b etween th e depths <strong>of</strong><br />

24.43 m and 425.04 m. Cumulative<br />

coal thickness <strong>of</strong> Seam I and IV<br />

varied from 2.35 m to 10.46 m. The<br />

work is in progres s.<br />

Regional explo ratio n und er G-2<br />

coalfield to establish the<br />

developmental pattern and<br />

continuity <strong>of</strong> th e region al Barakar<br />

coal seams in tersected in explo red<br />

adjacent Kurumkela Blocks in the<br />

north-cen tral part <strong>of</strong> Mand –<br />

Raigarh Coalfield an d to evaluate<br />

additional coal resource in the area.<br />

In boreho le-2 formational contact<br />

betw een Ba rren Measures and<br />

Barakar Formation was intersected<br />

at 162.22 m d epth. In Barakar<br />

Fo rmation , ten regiona l coal seams<br />

(Seam III to XII in ascend ing<br />

order) w ith cumulative thickness<br />

betw een 0.50 to 13.74 m<br />

intersected b etween the depths <strong>of</strong><br />

202.88 and 477.50 m. T he thickest<br />

sea m is highly banded in nature and<br />

its cumulative thic kn ess ranges<br />

from 11.90 m to 1 3.7 4 m. The work<br />

is in progress.<br />
