b. 'Our present English curriculum (Grade 1-8) is based on communicative approach.'
Do you agree or not? Justify.
I strongly agree that our present English curriculum is based on communicative
approach. Presently, in basic level, we have Primary English Curriculum (Grade1-3)
2062 and (4-5)2065, Lower Secondary English Curriculum, 2064 and Basic Level
English Curriculum (Grade 6-8), 2068 under piloting. All these follow
communicative approach to language teaching.
According to communicative approach, language is a system for expression or
meaning. The primary function of language is communication. Communicative
approach is the latest and most modern approach of language teaching. It emphasizes
on different kinds of functions in actual communication on the basis of what
language items the learners need to know in order to get things done.
School level curriculum, especially from grade one to eight, has followed the
communicative approach because of the following reasons:
It emphasizes on speech. Everyday language, interactions are regarded important
materials for reading and writing.
All the activities are student centered.
Natural conversation is emphasized rather than rules of grammar.
