a) Write down about elaboration matrix in present English curriculum (Grade 1-8).
Give an example.
Elaboration matrix has been mentioned in present English curriculum: Primary
(2062/2065), Lower Secondary (2064) and Basic Education Curriculum (2068)
under piloting. Elaboration matrix benefits not only subject teachers but also
educationists, supervisors, textbook writers and other stakeholders. Textbook writers
have to consider language functions, sentence pattern for each language function and
activities for teaching them. Teachers also use elaboration matrix for planning a
lesson and school supervisors for finding whether the teacher is teaching as per the
objectives set in the curriculum.
Elaboration matrix presents the specific language structures for the given language
functions, possible classroom activities and student evaluation techniques. It has
been presented grade wise and skill wise for the user's convenience. In English
curriculum (6-8), number of periods has been allocated to each language function or
topic on the basis of difficulty level. An example of elaboration matrix for grade
