c. Teaching reading skills
Reading is one of the important language skills. It is receptive skill through which
we receive a lot of information. Moreover, it is not a natural skill because it is not
acquired naturally like listening and speaking. Learning reading requires rigorous
practice. In the initial stage, students should be taught how to read aloud because
they have to associate the letters with the sounds. Later they should be taught to read
silently because silent reading fosters speed.
Techniques of teaching reading skills
For beginners, the following three steps are applied for teaching reading skill.
a) Recognizing different shapes and letters
Some basic shapes make up English letters. These shapes need to be introduced these
at the very beginning.
