All lessons integrate four language skills. Below are the guidelines showing the relative<br />
importance of the different skills.<br />

Teaching techniques<br />
Answering questions both orally and in writing, story-telling, role play,<br />
demonstration, pair work, group discussion, use of picture cues, silent reading,<br />
reading aloud, using language games, puzzles and chants, completing sentences,<br />
filling the blanks in a cloze exercise, matching sentences and copying into their<br />
answer books, answering comprehension questions, describing pictures in writing,<br />
writing paragraphs by elaborating given guidelines, parallel writing, writing<br />
paragraphs independently and writing letters, thank you note, notes of apology etc.<br />
Assessment<br />
All language skills are assessed. In district level examination, 20% marks should be<br />
allocated to listening and speaking while 80% to reading and writing.<br />
