English Curriculum 2064 BS are to:
� communicate in speech and writing with other people who speak English,
� understand and use the language functions prescribed in the curriculum,
� gain skills of developing competency in reading different types of written materials,
and
� develop an enthusiasm for and appreciation of reading both for information and
enjoyment.
The competencies of Basic level English (6-8) ( As per the Basic level curriculum 2068
under piloting)
English being an academic language course should help students of this level gain
competency at grammatical, discourse, sociolinguistic and strategic level. Hence, the
following competencies have been derived from the above mentioned levels for the Basic
level (Grades 6, 7 and 8) students:
� Listen and comprehend spoken English in a variety of personal, social and academic
contexts.
� Communicate in spoken English in a variety of personal, social and academic
contexts
� Comprehend written English in personal, social and academic contexts.
� Communicate in written English in a variety of personal, social and academic
contexts.
� Develop skills and competencies to use English as a medium for further studies and a
tool for obtaining information and enjoyment
� Learn to think creatively and critically to develop the language skills by promoting
tolerance, inclusiveness and socio-cultural harmony

Curriculum
A curriculum is a master plan of all the activities of a school. In other words, it is the
lifeblood of a school. Curriculum is also the term narrowly used for the course of study
or syllabus in a school or college. The curriculum sets the objectives, selects teaching
items to achieve the objectives, mentions the methods to be used to teach those teaching
items, and tells about the evaluation procedures to be adopted to measure the students'
achievements. Basically, curriculum contains objectives, learning outcomes, content,
teaching method and evaluation.
