from the PE database that are typical to similar services –<br />

the $248,000 ultrasound machine and a $1,915 stretcher. We<br />

ask commenters to provide us with <strong>document</strong>ation as to the<br />

type and cost of equipment that is used in furnishing the<br />

procedure in the physician office setting along with a<br />

rationale for suggested changes from the existing inputs.<br />

We have included the “dual” echocardiography image<br />

viewing and reporting system, although we accepted the base<br />

unit price of $85,000 in place of the $173,000 price<br />

provided by the specialty. <strong>This</strong> basic system is sufficient<br />

to manage, import, export, archive, and review and report<br />

digital exams; and, it contains an additional work station<br />

that is designed to function concurrently with a second<br />

ultrasound machine. Because this unit is designed for the<br />

concurrent use of two ultrasound units (a connection for<br />

managing the images from a third unit can be added for an<br />

additional fee), we ask commenters to provide us with the<br />

typical scenario as to whether one, two, or three<br />

ultrasound units will be connected to this image management<br />

system. We also ask commenters for information as to the<br />

amount of time that this dual image management system is in<br />

use for this procedure. In the interim, we have assigned<br />

the 7 minutes from the AMA RUC PE recommendation that is<br />
