Decisions for New 2009 CPT Codes lists the new CPT codes
for anesthesia and their base units that will be interim in
CY 2009. Table 28 includes the following information:
• CPT code. This is the CPT code for a service.
• Description. This is an abbreviated version of the
narrative description of the code.
• AMA RUC recommendations. This column identifies the
base units recommended by the AMA RUC.
• CMS decision. This column indicates whether we
agreed or we disagreed with the AMA RUC recommendation.
• 2009 Base Units. This column establishes the
CY 2009 base units for these services.
