To ensure that eligible professionals utilize<br />

electronic prescribing systems that meet these<br />

requirements, E-Prescribing Measure #125 requires that<br />

those functionalities required for a “qualified” electronic<br />

prescribing system must utilize the adopted Part D e-<br />

prescribing standards.<br />

The Part D e-prescribing standards relevant to the<br />

four functionalities for a “qualified” system in Measure<br />

#125, described above and listed as (a), (b), (c), and (d),<br />

are:<br />

(a) Generate medication list – Use the National<br />

Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP)<br />

Prescriber/Pharmacist Interface SCRIPT Standard,<br />

Implementation Guide, Version 8, Release 1, October 2005<br />

(hereinafter "NCPDP SCRIPT 8.1) Medication History<br />

Standard;<br />

(b) Transmit prescriptions electronically – Use the<br />

NCPDP SCRIPT 8.1 for the transactions listed at 42 CFR<br />

423.160(b)(2);<br />

(c) Provide information on lower cost alternatives –<br />

Use the NCPDP Formulary and Benefits Standard,<br />

Implementation Guide, Version 1, Release 0 (Version 1.0),<br />
