as defined in Measure #125. If the professional does not<br />

have general access to an e-prescribing system in the<br />

practice setting, there is nothing to report. In this way,<br />

Measure #125 is more than a “pay-for-reporting” measure<br />

since the reporting must relate to an already implemented<br />

e-prescribing system.<br />

Required Functionalities for a “Qualified” Electronic<br />

Prescriber System. What constitutes a “qualified”<br />

electronic prescribing system is based upon certain<br />

required functionalities that the system can perform. As<br />

currently specified in Measure #125, a “qualified”<br />

electronic prescribing system is one that can:<br />

(a) Generate a complete active medication list<br />

incorporating electronic data received from applicable<br />

pharmacies and PBMs, if available.<br />

(b) Allow eligible professionals to select<br />

medications, print prescriptions, electronically transmit<br />

prescriptions, and conduct alerts (written or acoustic<br />

signals to warn the prescriber of possible undesirable or<br />

unsafe situations including potentially inappropriate dose<br />

or route of administration of a drug, drug-drug<br />

interactions, allergy concerns, or warnings and cautions).<br />

(c) Provide information related to lower cost,<br />

therapeutically appropriate alternatives (if any). The<br />
