● Eligible professionals should be notified prior to<br />

the start of data collection that data collected in a<br />

particular year will be publicly reported and should be<br />

given sufficient opportunity to review and comment on any<br />

information that will be made public prior to its public<br />

release following an initial dry run in which reports are<br />

shared only with the eligible professionals. In addition,<br />

there should be a formal process to allow eligible<br />

professionals to correct any errors. <strong>CMS</strong> should also make<br />

the comments received from the review period public.<br />

● <strong>CMS</strong> should not report the names of those who<br />

satisfactorily <strong>submitted</strong> quality data until the data<br />

submission process and the reporting results have <strong>been</strong><br />

verified.<br />

● <strong>CMS</strong> should work closely with the physician<br />

community and other stakeholders in establishing a<br />

Physician Compare Web site and should establish a multi-<br />

stakeholder workgroup to provide input and feedback to <strong>CMS</strong><br />

on the development of the Web site, including identifying<br />

potential problem areas. <strong>This</strong> includes conducting focus<br />

groups with consumers and providers to determine the goals<br />

for public reporting prior to deciding which data to<br />

report.<br />
