in common, as identified by the denominator definition and<br />

coding of the measures groups.<br />

We encourage professional organizations and measure<br />

developers to engage in the development of measures groups,<br />

including measures groups that are applicable to other<br />

nonphysician professionals. We will continue working with<br />

stakeholders to fill gaps for measures groups.<br />

Comment: We received multiple suggestions for altering<br />

the proposed measure groups.<br />

Response: As stated previously, we requested in the CY<br />

2009 PFS proposed rule that suggestions for new measures<br />

groups or measures included in a particular measures group,<br />

must be based on individual measures included in the<br />

proposed 2009 PQRI quality measure set. In response to the<br />

suggestions provided by commenters, the Use of Imaging<br />

Studies in Low Back Pain measure <strong>has</strong> <strong>been</strong> removed from the<br />

Back Pain measures group due to the frequency for the<br />

process of care being inconsistent with the other measures<br />

in this measures group. No new measures groups have <strong>been</strong><br />

established outside of what was included in the CY 2009 PFS<br />

proposed rule. However, we encourage professional<br />

organizations and measure developers to engage in the<br />
