December 31). We also received a few comments suggesting<br />

we continue the option of allowing eligible professionals<br />

to report data on 15 consecutive patients for a 6-month<br />

reporting period.<br />

Response: Unlike in the 2008 PQRI, we will not include<br />

a reporting option for 15 consecutive patients for a<br />

6-month reporting period. While we do not have the results<br />

of the 2008 reporting, we are concerned that samples of<br />

fewer than 30 consecutive patients may be insufficient to<br />

calculate comparable performance rates across eligible<br />

professionals furnishing comparable services. We expect<br />

additional experience with PQRI reporting to clarify<br />

optimal sample sizes and reporting criteria for use in<br />

future reporting periods.<br />

Comment: We received comments recommending that,<br />

regardless of the reporting mechanism selected, the<br />

criteria for satisfactorily reporting of data on measures<br />

groups and individual quality measures be expanded to<br />

include the reporting of data on measures groups and/or<br />

individual quality measures for 100 percent of patients for<br />

whom the measures group and/or individual quality measures<br />

are applicable. One commenter thought that we should<br />

specifically require eligible professionals who report via<br />
