requested that more detailed information be provided in the<br />

feedback reports so that eligible professionals can<br />

reconcile <strong>CMS</strong>’ data with their own claims information to<br />

ensure that codes were <strong>submitted</strong> accurately, captured by<br />

the Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC), transferred<br />

to the PQRI data system, and result in meaningful data that<br />

corresponds to the eligible professional’s own experience.<br />

Response: Although, as discussed in sections II.S.6. and<br />

III. of this final rule with comment period, section<br />

1848(n) of the Act, as added by the MIPPA, requires the<br />

Secretary to establish a Physician Feedback Program to<br />

provide confidential reports to physicians (and, if<br />

determined appropriate by the Secretary, groups of<br />

physicians) that measure the resources involved in<br />

furnishing care to Medicare Part B patients, we are not<br />

statutorily required to provide participants with feedback<br />

reports on the quality measures data <strong>submitted</strong> for the PQRI<br />

and are not committing to provide feedback reports for<br />

claims-based submission of quality measures data for the<br />

2009 PQRI. For registry-based reporting in 2009, we would<br />

rely on the participating registries to provide feedback to<br />

participating eligible professionals.<br />

We do, however, understand the value of receiving<br />

meaningful feedback reports and, to the extent that we<br />
