revised definition, CORF social and psychological services<br />

must directly relate to the physical therapy or other<br />

rehabilitation plan of treatment and its associated goals.<br />

Since these patients are receiving CORF services because<br />

they have a need for skilled rehabilitation services, any<br />

social and psychological services provided in a CORF under<br />

§410.100(h) must include an assessment of the individual’s<br />

mental and emotional functioning exclusively as such<br />

functioning relates to their rehabilitation plan of<br />

treatment. In our view, such services provided in a CORF<br />

would not be “treatment of mental, psychoneurotic, and<br />

personality disorders of an individual” as set out in<br />

section 1833(c) of the Act, so that the statutory mental<br />

health payment limitations would not apply. We proposed<br />

changes to §410.155(b) to reflect our view regarding the<br />

limited nature of these services.<br />

The following is a summary of the comments received<br />

concerning our proposal to create a HCPCS G-code to<br />

describe the unique CORF social and psychological services<br />

and our responses.<br />

Comment: One commenter stated that the G-code is more<br />

specific to rehabilitation services and its implementation<br />

will support future adoption as a CPT code. Another<br />
