illness. We also adopted the more limited definition of CORF<br />

social and psychological services in §410.100(h)<br />

(72 FR 66399). The regulations state that social and<br />

psychological services include the assessment and treatment<br />

of an individual’s mental and emotional functioning and the<br />

response to and rate of progress as it relates to the<br />

individual’s rehabilitation plan of treatment, including<br />

physical therapy services, occupational therapy services,<br />

speech-language pathology services, and respiratory therapy<br />

services.<br />

We also noted that a HCPCS G-code could more<br />

accurately describe these unique CORF services, but<br />

believed that it was inappropriate to create such a G-code<br />

in the final rule with comment period without first<br />

proposing to do so in proposed rulemaking.<br />

Therefore, we proposed to create a CORF specific<br />

G-code, GXXX5, Social work and psychological<br />

services, directly relating to and/or furthering<br />

the patient's rehabilitation goals, each 15 minutes,<br />

face-to face; individual (services provided by a<br />

CORF-qualified social worker or psychologist in a CORF), to<br />

accurately describe the unique social and psychological<br />

services provided by CORF staff and to establish<br />
