(2) Have successfully completed a nationally-<br />

accredited educational program that confers eligibility for<br />

the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) registry<br />

exams, and have passed the registry examination<br />

administered by the NBRC, or<br />

(3) Have equivalent training and experience as<br />

determined by the National Board for Respiratory Care<br />

(NBRC) and passed the registry examination administered by<br />

the NBRC.<br />

2. Social and Psychological Services<br />

In the CY 2008 PFS final rule with comment period<br />

(72 FR 66297), we clarified that all CORF services,<br />

including social and psychological services, must directly<br />

relate to or further the rehabilitation goals established<br />

in the physical therapy, occupational therapy,<br />

speech-language pathology, or respiratory therapy plan of<br />

treatment. We believe that using a full range of clinical<br />

social and psychological CPT codes to describe CORF social<br />

and psychological services is inappropriate because social<br />

and psychological CORF services do not include independent<br />

clinical treatment of mental, psychoneurotic, and<br />

personality disorders. CPT codes 96150 through 96154 and<br />

CPT codes 90801 through 90899 are inappropriate for CORF<br />

use because all of these CPT codes represent full-scale<br />
