In an attempt to ensure that all physicians, NPPs, and<br />

NPP organizations are aware of and comply with their<br />

reporting responsibilities, we developed and posted<br />

reporting responsibilities for physicians, NPPs, and<br />

physician organizations on our provider enrollment Web page<br />

at www.cms.hhs.gov/MedicareProviderSupEnroll on<br />

September 16, 2008. In addition, on September 17, 2008, we<br />

issued a listserv announcement to those individual<br />

physicians and NPPs who subscribe to the <strong>CMS</strong> Physician Open<br />

Door Forum and to more than 150 national and State-level<br />

organizations that subscribe to the <strong>CMS</strong> provider<br />

partnership network. We also expect that contractors will<br />

continue to notify physicians and NPP organizations about<br />

their reporting responsibilities by listserv, bulletin,<br />

and/or direct mail in FY 2009 and beyond. With the<br />

implementation of this final rule with comment period on<br />

January 1, 2009, we will revise the educational materials<br />

found on our Web site and distribute this information<br />

through our established communication channels. Finally,<br />

we will post educational material, including fact sheets<br />

and frequent asked questions, regarding Internet-based<br />

PECOS as soon as this system is available to the public.<br />

Comment: One commenter asked that we create extensive<br />

educational programming on provider enrollment for both our<br />
