Ambulance fee schedule by 2 percent or 3 percent for ground<br />

ambulance trips in urban and rural areas, respectively<br />

furnished during the period July 1, 2008 through<br />

December 31, 2009; and, for air ambulance services<br />

furnished during the period beginning on July 1, 2008, and<br />

ending on December 31, 2009, any area that was designated<br />

as a rural area for purposes of making payments under such<br />

section for air ambulance services furnished on December<br />

31, 2006, shall be treated as a rural area for purposes of<br />

making payments for ambulance services furnished during<br />

such period. <strong>This</strong> section is estimated to increase<br />

Medicare expenditures by $20 million for CY 2009.<br />

12. Section 149: Adding Certain Entities as Originating<br />

Sites for Payment of Telehealth Services<br />

<strong>This</strong> provision will increase access to telehealth<br />

services through the new authority for certain facilities<br />

to serve as originating sites and is expected to have a<br />

negligible budgetary impact on Medicare expenditures.<br />

13. Section 153: Renal Dialysis Provisions<br />

A discussion of the impact of section 153 of the MIPPA<br />

is addressed in section XV.F. of this regulatory impact<br />

analysis in conjunction with the other ESRD provisions of<br />

this rule.<br />
