revisions to our PE methodology are needed.
We, therefore, welcome all comments on these proposed
changes, particularly those concerning additional modifications
to the indirect PE methodology that might help us further our
intended goals.
(4) PE Recommendations on CPEP Inputs for CY 2006
Since 1999, the PEAC, an advisory committee of the
AMA’s RUC, provided us with recommendations for refining the
direct PE inputs (clinical staff, supplies, and equipment)
for existing CPT codes. The PEAC held its last meeting in
March 2004 and the AMA established a new committee, PERC, to
assist the RUC in recommending PE inputs.
The PERC completed refinement of approximately 200
remaining codes at its meetings held in September 2004 and
February 2005. (A list of these codes can be found in
Addendum C of this proposed rule.)
We have reviewed the PERC-submitted recommendations and
propose to adopt nearly all of them. We have worked with the
AMA staff to correct any typographical errors and to make
certain that the recommendations are in line with previously
accepted standards.
