You mention that the best time of planting chickpeas is just before the onset ofcold<br />

weather so that the seeds germinate but do not emerge. They then remain<br />

covered with snow for one month or so and after the snow melts away in spring,<br />

the emergence occurs and the crop gets established. Could you please tell the<br />

percent emergence in this situation? There could probably be a high loss of<br />

stand because of death of some germinated seeds.<br />

In our experiments the percentage of germination varied from 16-68 accordi<br />

g to genotypes, which shows the variation in cold resistance.
