glinu, niobu, tlenu i fluoru o
zróżnicowanych koncentracjach.
W warstwie nanorurek
utworzonych na ziarnach fazy β
jest więcej niobu niż w warstwie
nanorurek na powierzchni ziarn
fazy α, natomiast te ostatnie
zawierają większą ilość glinu.
Badania XPS wykazały
obecność wymienionych pierwiastków
w postaci tlenków
– odpowiednie wartości energii
wiązania 458,7eV dla Ti 4+ ,
207,3eV dla Nb 5+ , 74,1eV dla
Al 3+ , a ponadto potwierdziły
obecność fluoru w postaci fluorków
F- 648,9eV i fosforu jako
fosforanów 133,4eV.
W odróżnieniu od podo-
bieństwa anodowego zachowania tytanu i stopu Ti6Al7Nb
w roztworach H 3PO 4 [1], wynikającego z podobieństwa
natury chemicznej tytanu i niobu [16-19], przeprowadzone
badania wykazały zróżnicowane zachowanie tytanu i jego
stopu podczas anodowania w roztworze zawierającym jony
fluorkowe. Podobnie jak tytan, niob jest metalem o dużej
odporności korozyjnej, którą zawdzięcza podatności pokrywania
się warstwą tlenkową Nb 2O 5 [20]. Podczas polaryzacji
anodowej w roztworach bezfluorkowych, niob tworzy tlenki
NbO i NbO 2 przy potencjale –0,2V (NEk), które następnie
utleniane są do Nb 2O 5 przy potencjale +0,2V (NEk) [21-23].
Zbliżone średnice jonów Nb 5+ i Ti 4+ , wynoszące odpowiednio
0,068nm i 0,063nm, pozwalają na ich izomorficzną wymianę
w siatce TiO 2 [24]. Jon Nb 5+ stabilizowany jest wtedy w
siatce krystalicznej wymianą elektronów pomiędzy jonami
Ti 4+ i Ti 3+ , a jony niobu Nb 5+ , charakteryzujące się niższymi
liczbami przeniesienia w porównaniu z tytanem, migrują
wolniej w warstwach tlenkowych w polu elektrycznym. W
tej sytuacji w kierunku granicy z elektrolitem przemieszczają
się przede wszystkim kationy tytanu Ti 3+ i Al 3+ , co wyjaśnia
łatwiejsze formowanie warstwy tlenkowej na ziarnach fazy
α, bogatej w Al. Obecność niobu głównie w fazie β stopu
i niższa szybkość transportu w warstwie tlenkowej oraz
niepodatność na rozpuszczanie tlenków niobu w roztworze
fluorków, tłumaczą mniejsze średnice nanorurek i większe
grubości ścianek nanorurek, zwłaszcza pokrywających
ziarna fazy β.
Różnice w średnicach nanorurek formowanych na powierzchni
tytanu i dwufazowego stopu Ti6Al7Nb oraz różnice
w ciągłości i jednorodności pokrywania powierzchni ziarn
obu faz stopu wynikają z różnic właściwości elektrochemicznych
pierwiastków stopowych Al i Nb. Na ziarnach fazy
α stopu formowane są nanorurki o większych średnicach
pokrywające całkowicie powierzchnię ziarn tej fazy. Na
ziarnach fazy β stopu formowane są nanorurki o mniejszych
średnicach i niepełnym pokryciu powierzchni stopu.
they have smaller diameters
45nm±10nm.
Both qualitative and quantitative
elemental analysis of
the surface layer over the α
and β grains was conducted
for the Ti6Al7Nb alloy by EDS
method. The results presented
in Table 1 show the presence of
titanium, niobium, oxygen and
fluorine of different concentrations.
Nanotubes formed over
β grains contain more niobium
than the nanotubes over α
grains, whereas the latter contain
more aluminium.
XPS studies confirmed the
presence of the relevant elements
as oxides – the corresponding
binding energies are
458,7eV for Ti 4+ , 207,3eV for
Nb 5+ , 74,1eV for Al 3+ . Moreover,
the fluorine as fluoride ion F-
with binding energy 648,9eV
and phosphorus as phosphates
with binding energy 133,4eV,
were present.
Contrary to the similarity between the anodic behavior of
titanium and Ti6Al7Nb alloy in H 3PO 4 solutions [1], resulting
from the similarity of chemical properties of titanium and
niobium [16-19], the performed studies revealed different
behavior of titanium and its niobium alloy during anodizing
in solution which contains fluoride ions. Similarly to titanium,
niobium has high corrosion resistance due its susceptibility
to being covered with Nb 2O 5 oxide layer [20]. At anodic polarization,
niobium forms NbO and NbO 2 oxides at the –0,2V
(NEk) potential, which are subsequently oxidized to Nb2O5
at the +0,2V (NEk) potential [21-23]. Similar diameters of
Nb 5+ and Ti 4+ ions, 0,068nm and 0,063nm subsequently,
permit their isomorphic transfer in the TiO 2 structure [24].
Nb 5+ ion is stabilized then in the crystal structure by the exchange
of electrons between Ti 4+ and Ti 3+ ions. Nb 5+ niobium
ions have lower transport number compared to titanium and
migrate slower in the electric field in oxide layers. In such
situation mainly Ti 3+ and Al 3+ cations migrate towards the
electrolyte interface, which explains easier formation of the
oxide layer over the α phase grains, rich in Al. At the same
time the presence of niobium mainly in the β phase of the
alloy and its worse transport properties in the oxide layer
as well as insusceptibility of niobium oxides to dissolve in
fluoride solutions account for smaller diameters of nanotubes
and incomplete coverage of the phase β surface of
the alloy by nanotubes.
Conclusions
The differences in the diameters of nanotubes formed on
the surface of titanium and the Ti6Al7Nb alloy as well the
differences in the continuity and uniformity of coverage of
both phase grains of the alloy result from the difference in
the electrochemical properties of the alloy elements: Al and
Nb. Over α phase grains nanotubes of bigger diameters,
rich in aluminium, covering the entire surface are formed.
Nanotubes of smaller diameters and incomplete surface coverage,
rich in niobium are formed over the β phase grains.
