Worth knowing in textile care
Nowadays, washing became much simpler due to modern machines - but the requirements
on textile care changed as well as our washing behaviour. Considering
the fact that functional textiles can do very much - their care seems to be very complex.
But following a few basic rules (care instructions), can help enjoying the textile’s
function for a long time. Washing the garment wrong can destroy it right away. Therefore
it is important to pay attention to the recommended care instructions - and never
separate the washing label from your article.
Using the proper detergent
Liquid light-duty detergent are particularly suitable for functional textiles since they
are more gentle to the fabric. Generally RENOUNCE fabric softener!!! This affects the
breathing activity of the membrane and/or the coating of textiles.
Washing of textiles with membrane
Good and correct maintenance is essential for membranes. This means: please follow
the instruction in the inserted care label. Unless otherwise noted: wash it in
the machine at 30° with light-duty detergent on delicate programme. NEVER USE
FABRIC SOFTENER!
Spin dry – yes or no? Dryer – yes or no?
If noted so on the washing label can dry the products on low temperature in the dryer.
Second possibility: Air-drying. Tip: select a lower spin cycle while washing. Hanging
up a wet textile helps to prevent creases.
How to regenerate the impregnation of waterproof textiles
It is easy to test if an impregnating treatment is due: lay down the textile and besprinkle
it with a water drops. If they form small droplets it means the roll off effect
is still present. If the water distributes itself and draws into the fabric, it is time for an
impregnation – refreshment (after approx. 3 - 4 laundry). Use for example the impregnation
as a spray (e.g.: TOKO - full impregnation). Activate it by heat either in dryer
or by ironing (please read also the packing reference).
Through this you does not improve the waterproofing, the fibers of the outer shell get
encased in order to reject water and dirt better.
EXOTHERM – breathable, water resistant clothing
Clothing with membrane-technology - e.g.: our Exotherm textiles - are easy to wash
in the washing machine with special detergents and delicate programme.
The special characteristics of the membrane:
Waterproof, stormstop and breathable, will remain even after repeated washing or
cleaning.
Re-impregnation:
Only WASHED textiles might be impregnated. We recommended treating the product
with an impregnation spray after 3-4 washings (we recommend TOKO). This treatment
does not improve watertightness but encases the fibers of the outer shell to
help reject water and dirt.
XENOTEX Function garment
Never use bleach or dry-cleaner on our XENOTEX functional garments. Wash it at
30°C (delicate programme and mild detergent). Please note also, these textiles have
an industrial impregnation on the outside to ensure the water-repellency. This impregnation
loses its effect through UV radiation and by wearing / abrasion over time.
Do not worry, your jacket is nevertheless water-repellent. The coating and the welded
seams ensure it. For to revitalize the “water roll off” effect simply use a special impregnation
(TOKO care). After drying iron it on low temperature - without steam.
Soft Shells
We recommend washing Soft Shells at 30°C on delicate programme. Shaking out the
garment after laundry avoids ironing. Since most Soft Shells have a water-repellent
impregnation, occasional refreshing is necessary.
Damage on membranes or on coating impairs the waterproofness. Please keep the
products away from needles and other sharp objects.

Fleece
Fleece products are best to wash at 30°C on delicate programme. Shaking out the
garment after washing avoids using an electric iron. Ironing fleece generally is to
avoid since even low temperatures flattens the fiber and the fleece loses its cuddling
and isolating character until next laundry.
Function shirt/blouses
On the washing label you will find following advice: Wash at 30°C on delicate programme.
Do not bleach. As in normal textiles, bleaching can affect the colors. You
should not use a tumble dryer – and you don’t need it. Our blouses and shirts made
out of Pro Dry material dry very fast and are almost drip-dry.
Down
For down washing please follow care instructions on the washing label. Generelly, we
recommend to wash down textiles with a special down detergent (we recommend
TOKO care for down products) at 30° to 40°C on delicate programme. Spin briefly
and carefully to avoid the down breaking.
Always add one or two wash or tennis balls ino the machine, so the down spaces out
properly. High quality down garments have to be taken out of the washing machine
immediately after the programme ends and taken into a tumble dryer. If no dryer is
available, only dry the jackets lying flat.
Attention: During the drying process fluff up and turn over the jacket several times.
NEVER let wet down garments stay in the machine after washing process, “outwashed”
down fat will create brown/yellow blotches.
General Tips
TIPP 1 After approximately 3-4 launderings you should
re-impregnate the garments.
TIPP 2 Using liquid color detergents the colors will last longer.
TIPP 3 Do not use too much detergent .
TIPP 4 Wash all textiles inside out. The outer shell will be protected
of scrubbing against the washing machine - and stay longer beautiful
TIPP 5 Load the machine on delicate programme only up to 2/3
TIPP 6 Close all zippers and snaps.
TIPP 7 Intractable stains must be pre-treated.

Washing
95°C hot wash
Textiles made out of cotton, linen, viscose rayon, white or boil-proofed colors.
Hand wash
Articles with this symbol should only be hand washed up to 30°C.
Do not wash
These articles can not be washed. If necessary such articles are to be cleaned chemically.
Bleaching
The symbol indicates chlorine bleach is possible. In this case well washed laundry
will be soaked in cold a chlorine base for 1 to 2 hours (10 to 20 ml chlorine base on
1 litre). For disposing the chlorine smell it must be water-washed several times. Then
the garment has to be washed with heavy-duty detergent at the highest acceptable
washing temperature.
Do not chlorinate and also do not use chloral cleaning agent. Hand over to the specialist.
Dry-cleaning
All usual cleaning methods are possible
Perchloroethylene - cleaning: Single cleaning possible
Careful wet cleaning: most gentle cleaning
Line below the circle (containing in P or F) refers to a necessary careful cleaning.
No dry-cleaning possible. Caution with cleaning agent containing dissolver.
Ironing
Ironing hot (max. 200°C)
= level for cotton / linen. Iron when garment still handle-damp. Take care of gloss - or
pressure-sensitive pieces, iron with intermediate cloth or on the back side.
Ironing moderately hot (max. 150°C)
= level for wool, modal, viscose, rayon, silk, polyester. Iron with an damp intermediate
cloth or steam. Avoid strong pressure and do not distort the garment.
Ironing on lowest level (max. 110°C)
= level for Polyacryl, PP, acetate. If necessary, iron glance or pressure-sensitive articles
with dry intermediate cloth or on the back. No steaming and do not distort the
garment.
Do not iron!
Ironing will cause great damage to the garment which can not be treated.
drying with normal heat
Careful drying process
drying on reduced temperature
Do not tumble dry in your dryer

General tips to remove stains
Blood - Wash out in cold salt water as soon as possible. If garments are strongly soiled,
repeat this step several times. Not washable fabrics should be dabbed with an alcohol soaked
cloth.
Egg or protein - Let egg stains dry completely, then brush out thoroughly. Protein marks
can be washed out with cold water, be careful the protein does not coagulate.
Marker/ball pen - Dab with a ethyl alcohol or nail polish remover soaked sponge and wash
gently afterwards (not ok for acetate fabrics)
Grass - Attention: Do not remove the stain immediately and do not try it with water. Let it
dry, then gently dab with ethyl alcohol and wash out in warm soap sud.
Coffee/tea - If milk has been in the coffee or tea, immediately wash out with cold water.
Afterwards, wash it in the machine with stain remover.
Chewing gum - Put the whole garment into the freezer in order to harden the gum. Then
you can peel off the gum easily.
Fruitstains - Rinse out immediately with cold water and with a bleach detergent. Soak
persistent marks with a Glycerine solution (1:1 glycerine - warm water).
Oil and fat - Treat long lasting marks with a fat solvent – then wash with detergent. If fabric
is not washable, try it with talcum powder, potato or corn flour – and brush it out thoroughly.
Red wine - Immediately add salt onto the blotch and let it remain for 30 minutes. Afterwards
wash normally.
Chocolate - Let the chocolate dry and then scrape it off from surface. Pretreat the stains
with soap sud and wash as usual.
Shoe polish - Treat carefully with turpentine.
Sweat marks - Gently treat with vinegar-water. Wash sweat marks in leather out with ammonium
chloride and rinse with lukewarm water.
Wax - Candle and wax stains are easy to remove. Put a piece of cloth or absorbent paper
over the garment and iron it gently.
