I went to a local Le Lac Bank-O-
Mat the other day to withdraw
some hard earned Swiss Francs.
When I put my card into the
machine, I read on the screen,
«Insufficient Funds.» I didn’t
know if that meant the bank or
me. When I told this story to a
friend, he told me about his experience
with «Insufficient Funds.»
It seems his daughter came home
from university on the weekend
and started crying to him. «Oh,
Papa, you gave me such terrible
financial advice.» He asked, «I
did??? What did I tell you?» His
daughter said, «You told me to put
my money in that big Swiss bank,
and now that big bank is in trouble.»
He replied, «What are you
talking about? That’s one of the
largest banks in Switzerland.
There must be some mistake.» She
continued crying and said, «I don’t
think so. They just returned one
of my transfer and withdrawal
requests with a note saying, «Insufficient
Funds.»
So, with all the current bank troubles
and woes, we can imagine
that in the coming months, some
Bank-O-Mats will be featuring a
few new messages on their screens.
For example, you’ll go to the
Bank-O-Mat and press the right
buttons to see your account balance.
But instead of printing out
a receipt, the screen will say, «Not
worth wasting paper,» and your
bank card will quickly be ejected.
When you try again to find out
the balance, the screen will say,
«Account not found,» and the
Bank-O-Mat will keep your card.
Or, you’ll be getting ready for your
first Christmas shopping trip so
you’ll insert your bank card into
the Bank-O-Mat, try to get some
cash and the Bank-O-Mat makes
laughing sounds, while spitting
out your shredded card. So, try as
you might, there will be no way to
get your very own money out of
the bank’s machine. All this will be

a way so that the bankers can keep
your money, and perhaps their
jobs, or at least to supplement
their sad, bonus-less income.
Speaking of bankers, in the last
few weeks of the credit crunch, a
man in the States became very ill
with heart trouble. His heart was
in pretty bad shape. So he went to
the hospital and his doctor spoke
to him about heart transplant surgery.
The doctor offered the man
a few different hearts to choose
from and asked the man, «Which
one would you like? Here’s the
heart of a long distant flight pilot,
here’s one from an important business
man, and this heart is from a
local banker. Which heart would
you like?» The man thought for a
while, laughed and said, «I’ll be
happy to take the banker’s heart.»
So the doctor asked, «Why do you
want to have the heart of a banker?»
And the man replied, «Because
I’m sure it has never been used!»

Pour sa 56ème édition le comptoir
de Payerne accueille la commune
valaisanne d’Ayent, et plus particulièrement
la station d’Anzère.
Cette année, le Comptoir de
Payerne offrira un nouveau visage
aux visiteurs, car des modifications
ont été apportées dans l’implantation
des stands.
Après l’espace mariage, présent
depuis de nombreuses éditions, et
l’espace artisans créé l’an dernier,
c’est au tour des commerces liés au
sport de se retrouver dans un espace
commun; l’espace restaurants à
proximité de la scène du Comptoir
a également été réorganisé. Le traditionnel
concours de vins LE
VENDO sera tenu cette année par
la fanfare La Lyre de Grandcour.
Pedzibus
Cette année à nouveau, le Comptoir
de Payerne offre un service de
retour à domicile grâce à l’action
PEDZIBUS mise sur pied en collaboration
avec M. Brasey de la
Flèche Broyarde pour le retour des
personnes ne se sentant pas aptes à
la conduite de leur véhicule.
Ce service fonctionnera tous les
soirs de la semaine dès 22h et dès
20h les samedis et dimanches. Le
service se terminera 1 heure après
la fermeture des bars. Une modique
somme sera demandée aux personnes
qui seront raccompagnées.
13 ème Tournoi d’échecs
Le Club d’échecs de Payerne organisera
à nouveau son tournoi
d’échecs du Comptoir de Payerne.
Celui-ci se déroulera le dimanche
16 novembre de 11h à 17h dans
la salle polyvalente de la Prome-

nade. Le tournoi est ouvert aux
juniors des catégories U10, U12,
U15 et U20, ainsi qu’aux seniors
nés en 1987 et années antérieures.
Il se déroulera en 7 rondes de 15
minutes par joueur. Samedi 15
novembre, le jeune maître international
suisse d’échecs Alexandre
Vuilleumier affrontera dans une
partie simultanée une trentaine

Journée officielle du Comptoir
de Payerne
La traditionnelle journée officielle
se déroulera le samedi 8 novembre.
Ce sera l’occasion pour les
autorités valaisannes, vaudoises,
ayentoises et payernoises de se rencontrer
et de comparer leurs points
communs et leurs différences dans
une ambiance conviviale et fraternelle.
14h30: Echo des Vallées, Ayent,
cors des Alpes; 20h: Echo du
Rawyl, Ayent, fanfare
Payerne insolite
C’est sous ce nom que l’artistepeintre
payernois Eloi Rossier a
composé 12 tableaux pour la réalisation
d’un magnifique calendrier
2009. Il sera présent au
comptoir de Payerne pour présenter
ses œuvres et dédicacer son
calendrier.
