on International Business in Chennai/India

The MSc in International Business under
the EU-India cross cultural Programme is
a Southbank University London Project run
jointly with Loyola College, Chennai, India
and University of Applied Sciences Mainz,
Germany. On this behalf, the Second Conference
took place from 7 th to 8 th of September
2001 in Chennai.
Loyola College Chennai was founded in 1924
by the Loyola College Society to train young
men an women of quality to be leaders in al
ways of life. Loyola became an autonomous
College in 1978. It has 6.000 students and
more than 15 major departments offering
courses in science, humanities, arts, business
and languages. The College is accredited
as a five Star Institution by the National
Accredited Committee.

Southbank University in London was founded
over 100 years ago to foster vocational
training in the Southwark area of London.
The Southbank Business School nowadays
provides expertise in wide range of disciplines
such as Management, Finance and
Accounting, Law etc.
The University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule)
Mainz was established 1976
and provides a high quality professional
teaching and training in three faculties:
Architecture, Design and Business Administration.
The Business School has more than
2.000 students.
Conference themes were related to the Cross
Cultural Management with the current perspectives
and the future prospects. Therefore,
the topics were
- learning styles across cultures,
- Culture and Communications,
- Training for cross cultural programmes,
- international Human Resources Management.
The Conference objectives were
- to produce high quality research resulting
in a number of academic papers being
presented at this international conference
and seminar
- to organise a conference which will bring
together course participants as well as
representatives from the EU commission,
the Indian government, the India-German
Chamber of Commerce, academics and the
business community.
The conference started on Friday the 7 th
with the venue and welcome by the principal
Fr. Joseph Xavier S.J. of Loyola College;
the organisation and all the preparation for
the conference were done by Dr. Joseph Jayaraj
– the audience was
impressed by his exact
and very well work.
They thanked him very
much for his commitment.
Papers were presented
by Winston Prandziok,
Principal Lecturer at
Southbank University

to the topic of international education; his
college Beate Wengler was Chairperson.
Participants from Mainz were Prof. Dr. Scharnbacher,
Prof. Dr. Schüle, Prof. Dr. Reich,
Helen Bicknell M.A. and Dipl. Betriebswirtin
(FH) Sabine Klebig M.A. Prof. Schüle presented
a paper to international relations especially
the connections of India and Germany.
Helen Bicknell and Sabine Klebig drew a comparsion
of the different education systems
in Great Britain and Germany. Prof. Scharnbacher
talked about international market
research and was Chairperson. The german
delegation had the chance, to get some
impressions of the Indian business world
when visiting some joint venture companies
and the Chennai Harbour.
From Loyola, the practical part was involved;
there was a presentation from the Commissioner
of Customs to international custom
regulations; from Lintas Marketing to International
Marketing Strategies.
The conference was terminated on Saturday
the 8 th in the British embassy were the
participants had the chance to thank Dr.
Jayaraj again for his excellent organisation.
