übernommen und zur heutigen Bedeutung geführt. Seit einigen
Jahren ist mit Sohn Ralph Heinrich und Tochter Swantje bereits
die dritte Generation im Unternehmen aktiv tätig.
Heute ist Eibach mit eigenen Produktionswerken und Vertriebsfirmen
in Deutschland, den USA, England, Japan, Australien,
Südafrika und in China vertreten. Darüber hinaus betreuen
wir mittlerweile Kunden in über 80 Ländern. Man kann mit
Recht sagen, dass Eibach weltweit den Ruf als führender Hersteller
von hochwertigen Federungs- und Fahrwerkssystemen
sowie technischen Spezialfedern genießt. An unserem Standort
in Finnentrop stellen wir mit rund 270 MitarbeiterInnen Federn
und Federungssysteme für praktisch jede Anwendung her. Eine
von uns erarbeitete und produzierte Linie stellt die Federn und
Anbauelemente der Produktlinie PlayCom dar.

PlayCom range represent a line that we conceived and produce ourselves.
P@L: Which brings us to today’s topic. What can you tell our
readers about PlayCom?
Stefan Steinhanses: The first playground equipment was already developed
in the 1960s but it was mainly designed from a practical point
of view. At that time nobody was thinking about the EN 1176 safety
requirements that exist today, and if they would have existed back then,
it would have been at a greatly reduced, unsafe level. At the beginning
the springs were taken out of lorries that were heading to the scrap yard,
fitted with the relevant structures and placed on the playground.
Today, all components for the playground equipment are designed at
CAD screens and once all the components are decided this is followed by
CNC-controlled production. We already found out in the 1980s that our
customer’s spring geometry was similar. This gave us the ideas to
produce a platform to provide our customers, who come originally from
the wood sector, with the necessary ‘metal parts’. To this day we still
cooperate very closely with the technicians at the playground manufacturing
companies in order to be able to recommend the correct products
from the start. Today we offer six standard springs, each in three

P@L: Womit wir beim heutigen Thema wären. Was können
Sie unseren Lesern zu PlayCom mitteilen?
Stefan Steinhanses: Erste Spielgeräte wurden bereits in den 60er
Jahren entwickelt, allerdings doch eher unter dem Aspekt,
Hauptsache praktikabel. An die heute existierenden Sicherheitsvorschriften
nach EN 1176 hatte damals noch niemand
gedacht bzw. wenn welche vorhanden gewesen sind, dann
sicherlich auf sehr reduziertem, unsicherem Niveau. Anfänglich
wurden Federn aus schrottreifen LKW ausgebaut,
mit entsprechenden Aufbauten versehen und auf den Spielplatz
gestellt.
Heute werden sämtliche Bauteile, die ein Federspielgerät
ausmachen, an CAD Bildschirmarbeitsplätzen entworfen
und wenn alle Bauteile in sich schlüssig sind, schließt

P@L: Coming back to my first question: talking about your
spring technology expertise, how likely do you think is it is that
the market will produce a copy of PlayCom springs and of the
system?
Stefan Steinhanses: In theory every component could be copied except
the patented spring perch. The copies of the Eibach spring perch that are
in the field are all preliminary versions of the current product with integrated
anti-twist protection. Unlike an assembly using a spring clamp
this spring perch incorporates the entire spring and thus ensures perfect
fit. After assembly with a spacer and carriage bolts there is also traction.
The advantage of this system: The overlapping torsion and bend loads
that the spring needs to absorb are incorporated perfectly by the spring
and spring perch system and partially diverted into the ground via the
head of the ground anchor.
