sollte zudem in der Lage sein, die verwendeten
Bindemittel an die Witterung während
des Einbaus und an die Farbgebung
der Nutzschicht anzupassen. So muss bei relativ
kaltem und feuchtem Wetter ein langsamer
reagierendes Bindemittel eingesetzt werden als
im Sommer, wo man ein Bindemittel mit einer der höheren
Temperatur angemessenen Reaktionszeit benötigt. Benutzt
ein Anbieter ein der Witterung nicht angemessenes Bindemittel,
werden die Granulate nicht ausreichend verbunden.
Schnell auftretende Risse, Senkungen oder Zerbröselungen
können die Folge sein.

Verfärbungen vermeiden
Bei hellen, leuchtenden EPDM-Farben muss außerdem ein
UV-beständiges Bindemittel eingesetzt werden, da sich die
Oberfläche sonst temporär verfärben kann. Seriöse Anbieter
weisen ihre Kunden bei der Wahl sensibler Farben darauf hin
und stellen es den Kunden frei die teureren UV-beständigen
Bindemittel zu verwenden oder nicht. Anbieter, die das aus
Kostengründen oder Unvermögen unterlassen, können sich
bei Verfärbungen nicht auf unvermeidbare Materialschwächen
berufen. Auch hier kann der aufmerksame Planer schon
in der Angebotsphase die Spreu vom Weizen trennen.

Critical – Origin and
life expectancy
Validity of the fall protection approval is
not the only important quality feature
of seamless safety flooring. Also of significance
are the material and its processing.
Above all, the complete flooring
system should have confirmation of
environmental compatibility or a comparable
approval regarding leaching of substances
injurious to health or the environment. The materials
used, although the same in appearance, can differ very
greatly in this respect. The granulate of the basic layer may
have different origins, the coloured EPDM granules of the wearing surface
can be made of different raw materials and the bonding agents used could
exceed the emissions limits – or not, as the case may be.
Along with protection of health and the environment, the materials used
are decisive for the loading capacity and life expectancy of the flooring.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to estimate the quality of a flooring in this regard
before installation. Only the composition of the EPDM material can

● Die Serviceleistungen des Anbieters von der Planungsphase
bis zur Nutzung müssen umfassend und kompetent sein.
Es handelt sich hier sowohl um das Servicepaket eines
Industrieunternehmens plus dem eines Bauunternehmens.
● Die Erfahrung und Kompetenz der Montageteams sind zu
hinterfragen, auch die Anstellungsverhältnisse und die
Entlohnung.
● Die generelle Reputation des Unternehmens erkennt man
beispielsweise an Zertifizierungen nach ISO 9001, ISO
14001 und BS OHSAS 18001 oder auch an umfangreichen
technischen Dokumentationen und aussagekräftigen
Referenzen zum Produkt.

should be capable of adjusting
the bonding agent used to suit the
weather conditions prevailing during
installation and the colouring
of the wearing surface. In relatively
cold and wet weather a more
slowly reacting bonding agent
should be used than in summer,
when a bonding agent with a reaction
time suitable for use at higher temperatures
is required. If a supplier uses the
wrong bonding agent, the granulate will not
be bonded sufficiently resulting in quickly visible
cracks, sinkholes or crumbling.
Avoid discolouration
Light, bright EPDM colours also require use of a UV-resistant bonding
agent as the surface can otherwise show temporary discolouration.
Reputable suppliers make customers aware of the problems of
sensitive colours and leave it at their discretion whether to use a UVresistant
bonding agent. Suppliers who neglect to do this, whether for
reasons of economy or incompetence, cannot blame unavoidable material
faults for this kind of discolouration. Here again, a careful planner
can sort the sheep from the goats already in the first tendering
phase.
