Spiderpark
A family oasis on a site formerly owned by Allied Forces.
In 2005 the Parkviertel Dahlem housing development was created on the
site of a former Allied Forces housing estate on the Hüttenweg in the Berlin
district of Dahlem. The aim of the investor is to create the most family-friendly
residential area in the whole of Berlin – a family oasis directly bordering the
Grunewald forest. The existing buildings on the 300,000 m² of the site were
modernised and complemented by new developments of small multi-family
houses and semi-detacheds. The development programme also covers investment
of three million Euros for the design and landscaping of family-friendly
outside facilities. The plans of the operator – the Parkviertel-Dahlem Grundstücksgesellschaft
– seem to be paying dividends: by now over 180 apartments
have been sold and over 200 apartments have been rented.
One of the key features of the residential
area is its lavish open green spaces well
stocked with old trees, which together with
its excellent leisure and sport amenities offer
a setting highly conducive to family life. "We
are investing a great deal of money so that
children of all ages can enjoy modern and
safe playgrounds," says Dr. Ulrich Weber,
managing director of Apellas Property Holding
GmbH. The Spiderpark is the chief attraction
among all the outdoor amenities.
“We at Corocord are particularly proud that
it was us that had the honour of building
this prestigious playground.
For the wood of old oak trees our planners
created a 90 meter long climbing path radiating
out from the central Spider’s Web,”
Maria Molina (Corocord) says. “More
than twenty elements from our Forest
Bridges programme are secured to natural
wooden posts. The focal point of this extensive
rope structure is formed by our Spider’s
Web woven around an 80 year old
oak tree. With an ingenuity born of great
experience, Corocord engineers succeeded
in mounting a set of rope play equipment
without directly stressing or damaging the
old tree.” Forest Bridges offer children a
huge range of different climbing adventures.
Balancing and Hand-over-Hand Tree
Bridges, Rope Loops, and Vertical Climbing
Nets lead the young adventurers to
the centrepiece of the structure – the Spider’s
Web. The aim now is to climb and
take possession of it – just like a spider.
Any intrepid adventurers worn out by so
much climbing can collect their strength in
the nearby hammock or stretch their legs
on the Hexagonal Net. The great flexibility
of the elements means that climbing fun
and excitement is assured for all ages –
from children of kindergarten age to athletic
grown-ups. With the Spiderpark the
Parkviertel-Dahlem now boasts a key hallmark
feature that provides equal enjoyment
for young and old. A new innovative
