<strong>Hospitals</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Austria</strong><br />
The <strong>Austria</strong>n Federal M<strong>in</strong>istry of Health, Family and Youth (BMGFJ) has now issued the seventh<br />
revised edition of “<strong>Krankenanstalten</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Österreich</strong> / <strong>Hospitals</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Austria</strong>”, the directory of all<br />
<strong>in</strong>patient hospitals <strong>in</strong> <strong>Austria</strong> officially registered under the Federal <strong>Hospitals</strong> Act (KAKuG).<br />
The hospitals directory is based on an onl<strong>in</strong>e database, which is available on the m<strong>in</strong>istry’s<br />
website http://www.bmgfj.gv.at (see Gesundheitssystem). It is an address and telephone directory<br />
with additional statistical <strong>in</strong>formation on hospital resources and services <strong>in</strong> all of the<br />
n<strong>in</strong>e prov<strong>in</strong>ces of <strong>Austria</strong>. The onl<strong>in</strong>e database allows targeted searches for obta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>formation<br />
on <strong>in</strong>dividual hospitals.<br />
This bil<strong>in</strong>gual brochure provides a complete overview of the <strong>Austria</strong>n hospital sector, and thus<br />
constitutes an important supplement to the onl<strong>in</strong>e directory. It is <strong>in</strong> great demand both <strong>in</strong> <strong>Austria</strong><br />
and abroad and is <strong>in</strong>tended as a work<strong>in</strong>g aid for health professionals and to assist <strong>in</strong>terested<br />
non-professionals to obta<strong>in</strong> an <strong>in</strong>formative <strong>in</strong>sight <strong>in</strong>to hospitals <strong>in</strong> <strong>Austria</strong>. The brochure<br />
can also be downloaded from the website mentioned above.<br />
The onl<strong>in</strong>e version provides the most recent <strong>in</strong>formation at any given time whereas the brochure<br />
reflects the status of <strong>in</strong>formation of March 2008. This means that the onl<strong>in</strong>e <strong>in</strong>formation<br />
may vary slightly from the contents of the brochure. The statistical <strong>in</strong>formation concern<strong>in</strong>g<br />
number of beds, special departments/wards and major medico-technical equipment is based<br />
on recent hospital statistics, reflect<strong>in</strong>g the status as at 31 December 2006.<br />
Further <strong>in</strong>formation on the development of the hospital sector s<strong>in</strong>ce 1991 is provided on the<br />
m<strong>in</strong>istry's bil<strong>in</strong>gual website „<strong>Krankenanstalten</strong> <strong>in</strong> Zahlen/<strong>Hospitals</strong> <strong>in</strong> figures”<br />
(http://www.kaz.bmgfj.gv.at). Information on the <strong>Austria</strong>n <strong>in</strong>dependent outpatient health care<br />
centres will be added soon, a separate brochure on this sector will be also available on the<br />
m<strong>in</strong>istry’s website.<br />
The hospitals directory is a voluntary service provided as part of the public relations work of<br />
the Federal M<strong>in</strong>istry of Health and Women. The m<strong>in</strong>istry cannot guarantee the accuracy of the<br />
content.<br />
