100 Years of International Surrealism
The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium present with »IMAG-
INE!« an extraordinary international travelling exhibition conceived
in close collaboration with the Centre Pompidou (Paris). It allows
visitors to immerse themselves in surrealist poetry, the dream, the labyrinth,
metamorphosis, the unknown and the subconscious. Each partner
museum hosts the core of the travelling exhibition and enriches it
by highlighting its own heritage. In Brussels, the RMFAB explores
surrealism from a symbolist perspective through more than 130 works
of art (paintings, works on paper, sculptures, objects, assemblages and
photographs) by the great names of surrealism such as Max Ernst,
Giorgio de Chirico, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, Jane Graverol, Dorothea
Tanning, Man Ray, Leonor Fini and many other artists. After
Brussels, the exhibition will be shown in Paris from September, before
travelling to the Hamburger Kunsthalle and then to the Fundación
Mapfré Madrid, ending at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Art enthusiasts can also look forward to other exciting exhibitions to
mark the 100th anniversary of Surrealism in Belgium. The Magritte
Museum is showing »Magrittte • Folon –The Dream Factory«, a
juxtaposition of the two dreamers René Magritte and Jean-Michel
Folon, while Bozar highlights the history of Belgian surrealism.
