Kernkraftwerk Tschornobyl ein
wichtiger Punkt auf dem Weg des
Angriffs auf Kyjiw. Oleksiy Radynski
kombiniert Interviews, Aufnahmen
verschiedener Teile des Gebiets,
Spuren der Zerstörung, die die
russischen Truppen anrichteten,
und mit einem Telefon gefilmtes
Material, das zeigt, wie russische
Militärfahrzeuge durch Tschornobyl
rasen. Dieses Dokument hält das
Wesen und die Details der russischen
Invasion für die Geschichte – und
hoffentlich auch für die internationale
Justiz – fest.
When Russians invaded Ukraine
in 2022, the infamous Chornobyl
nuclear plant was an important point
on the way of their assault against
Kyiv. Filmmaker Radynski puts
together the interviews of the firsthand
witnesses, the shots of different
parts of the area, the eloquent traces
of the destruction the Russian troops
caused and footage filmed with a
phone that shows Russian military
vehicles rushing through Chornobyl.
This combination becomes a
priceless comprehensive document
capturing the essence and details
of the Russian invasion for history
– and, hopefully, for international
justice as well.

Marat, ein älterer Mann, arbeitet
schon „sein halbes Leben“ beim
selben Arbeitgeber. Am Vorabend des
kasachischen Unabhängigkeitstags
wird er entlassen, weil er den neuen
Standard nicht erfüllt: er spricht
keine Fremdsprachen. Hinzu kommt,
dass seine Frau vor einem Jahr
gestorben ist – und sein entfremdeter
Sohn noch nicht einmal davon weiß.
Mit Zeit und Mühe gelingt es Marat
schließlich sich selbst und seinen
Platz in der Welt neu zu erfinden.
Marat is an elderly man that has
been “working half of his life” at one
place. On the eve of Independence
Day, he is fired for not complying
with the new standards: he doesn’t
speak any foreign languages. This
adds to his personal drama: his wife
died a year ago – and his estranged
son doesn’t even know about it. It
takes time and effort but, in the end,
Marat manages to reinvent himself
and his place in this world.

Burjat:innen, dem Volk der Sacha

die das Gebiet kolonisierten,
nennen ihn den „heiligen Baikal“.
Telengut, eine kanadische Filmemacherin
mit mongolischen Wurzeln,
erzählt auf Burjatisch und mit feinster
Animation die Naturgeschichte,
die Geographie, die umgebende Natur,
den mythologischen Hintergrund –
und wir begreifen die Schönheit und
symbolische Bedeutung des tiefsten
Sees der Erde für die sibirischen
Kulturen, die ihren Ursprung mit
dem Baikal verbinden.
Lake Baikal has been a sacred place
for Mongols, Buryats and Sakha—
even Russians, who colonized the
area not so long ago, call it “Holy
Baikal”. Telengut, a Canadian
filmmaker of Mongolian origin, uses
the Buryat language and exquisite
animation to bring to life the lake’s
geological history, its geography, the
surrounding nature, the mythological
background – and we understand the
beauty and symbolical importance
of the planet’s deepest lake to the
Siberian cultures that connect their
very existence to Baikal.
