OTAR IOSSELIANI &
SWETLANA SIKORA
Im Jahr 2010 ehrte goEast den georgisch-französischen
Filmemacher Otar Iosseliani mit einer Hommage.
1934 in Tbilissi geboren, lebte er seit seiner Emigration
1982 überwiegend in Paris. Nach einem Musik- und
Mathematikstudium in Tbilissi und Moskau wechselte
Iosseliani an die Filmhochschule VGIK, wo er bei
Oleksandr Dovzhenko und Mikhail Tschiaureli studierte.
Schon sein erster längerer Film APRILI / APRIL (GeoSSR
1962) wurde verboten und erst 1972 veröffentlicht. Nach
dem internationalen Erfolg seines dritten Spielfilms
PASTORALI / EIN SOMMER AUF DEM DORF (GeoSSR 1975)
emigrierte Iosseliani nach Frankreich. Seine filmischen
Parabeln erzählte er leise, in einer klaren, auf das Minimum
reduzierten visuellen Sprache. Ende Dezember 2023
starb Otar Iosseliani in Tbilissi, seine Drossel wird aber
für immer singen. Ebenfalls 2023, im September, verstarb
Swetlana Sikora in Vilnius. Von 2001 bis 2010 hatte sie die
künstlerische Leitung von goEast inne und sie war es, die
Iosseliani 2010 die Hommage widmete. Mit Bestimmtheit
und feinem Gespür gestaltete sie das Festivalprogramm.
goEast zeigt in Gedenken an den Filmemacher und die
langjährige künstlerische Leiterin von goEast einen Film
von Otar Iosseliani. (mme)
In 2010, goEast honoured Georgian-French filmmaker
Otar Iosseliani with an Homage. Born in Tbilisi in 1934,
following his emigration in 1982 he made his primary
home in Paris. After studying music and mathematics in
Tbilisi and Moscow, Iosseliani switched to the VGIK film
academy, where he studied with Oleksandr Dovzhenko
and Mikhail Tschiaureli. His first longer film APRILI /
APRIL (GeoSSR 1962) was banned from the start and
wouldn't see release until 1972. Following the international
success of his third fiction feature, PASTORALI
(GeoSSR 1975), Iosseliani emigrated to France. His
cinematic parables were told in a quiet tone, in a visual
language full of clarity, reduced to the minimum. Otar
Iosseliani passed away in Tbilisi in late December of 2023,
but his thrush will sing forever.
Svetlana Sikora also passed away in 2023, in September,
in the city of Vilnius. From 2001 to 2010, she served as
artistic director at goEast – it was she who devoted
the 2010 Homage to Iosseliani. Svetlana assembled the
festival program with determination and a fine sense of
intuition. In memory of the filmmaker and the long-time
artistic director of goEast, the festival has chosen to show
a film from Otar Iosseliani's oeuvre.

Glücksritter:innen und Hochstapler:innen unterschiedlichster
Couleur und sozialer Herkunft jagen einem
alten Gemälde und kostbarem antikem Geschirr nach.
Der Titel paraphrasiert Shakespeares Zeilen über den
Mond „(…) wir wandeln, wie die See, mit der Luna, (...)
unter deren Begünstigung wir stehlen“. Die Menschen
werden wie Spielkarten gemischt, zusammengeführt
und wieder getrennt. Der Meisterdieb, der kunstfertige
Schlosser, der beraubte Finanzier, die federleichte Kokette
und der korrupte Richter; der verführerische Abenteurer,
verschworene Rentner, und nicht zu vergessen die
unerträglichen kleinen Kinder und der Polizist, der alles
sieht und hört. Die Gegenstände fliegen herum und die
Gefühle auch. (mme)
Adventurers and con artists of all types and class backgrounds
chase after an old painting and precious antique
porcelain. The title paraphrases Shakespeare's lines about
our heavenly companion: “(…) being governed, as the sea is,
by our noble and chaste mistress the moon, under whose
countenance we steal”. Here, human beings are shuffled
and re-shuffled like playing cards, brought together
only to be separated again. There's the master thief, the
skilled locksmith, the robbed financier, the featherweight
coquette and the corrupt judge; then there's the seductive
swashbuckler, the conspiring pensioner – and we mustn’t
forget the unbearable little children and the police officer
who sees and hears everything. Objects fly around at will
here, and emotions do too.
