Der Film erzählt von Frauen, die Anfang der 1990er
Jahre im Kroatienkrieg Opfer systematischer sexueller
Gewalt wurden und Heilung suchen. Ein fünfköpfiges
Team hat unter dem Dach einer NGO ein aufwändiges
psychotherapeutisches Programm entwickelt. 25 Jahre
nach Kriegsende werden die Teilnehmerinnen dieses
Programms, Frauen um Mitte bis Ende 50, drei Jahre
lang während der gemeinsamen Auseinandersetzung
mit ihrer traumatischen Vergangenheit von der Kamera
begleitet. Mit Sorgfalt und respektvoller Nähe erzählt der
Film sowohl von vier Einzelschicksalen als auch vom
kollektiven Heilungsweg, der trotz der Konflikte in der
Gruppe im therapeutischen Prozess möglich wird.
MARBLE ASS erkundet das Leben eines transsexuellen
Paares im Belgrader Chaos der 1990er Jahre, welches
während des Jugoslawienkrieges seinen Höhepunkt
erreicht. Želimir Žilnik taucht mit dem Film in Themen
wie Sexualität, Identität und gesellschaftliche Normen ein
und versucht, gängige Überzeugungen von Männlichkeit
und Nationalismus zu dekonstruieren. Trotz Kontroversen
hat er einen bleibenden Eindruck hinterlassen und bleibt
die erste echt queere Produktion aus der postjugoslawischen
Region. Durch seine einzigartige Sprache bietet
MARBLE ASS eine bleibende Erzählung, die Žilniks
bemerkenswertes filmisches Werk hervorhebt und seinen
Platz in der Kinogeschichte festigt.
This film deals with women victimised by systematic
sexual violence during the Croatian War of the early
1990s who are now seeking to heal. A five-member team
operating under the patronage of an NGO has developed
an elaborate psychotherapeutic program. 25 years after
war's end, the program participants, women in their
mid-to-late 50s, are accompanied by the camera for three
years as they collectively confront their traumatic pasts.
With great care and respectful intimacy, the film tells of
four individual fates and of a collective path to healing
that is made possible by the therapeutic process, in spite
of conflicts within the group.
MARBLE ASS explores the lives of a transsexual couple
set against the chaos of 1990s Belgrade as it reaches its
peak during the Yugoslav War. Directed by Želimir Žilnik,
the film delves into themes of sexuality, identity and
societal norms with an attempt to deconstruct common
beliefs surrounding masculinity and nationalism. Despite
its controversial reception, it has left a lasting impact,
remaining the first true queer production to originate from
the post-Yugoslav region. Through its unique language,
MARBLE ASS offers a narrative that lingers, highlighting
Žilnik's remarkable filmmaking opus and solidifying its
place in cinematic history.
