DER WIND UND DIE EICHE war laut Regisseur Sahatçiu
der erste Film „von Kosovaren für Kosovaren“. Hier kämpft
der kosovarische Partisan Lisi (die Eiche) im Zweiten
Weltkrieg gegen die Faschisten:innen. Seine Geschichte
wird auch nach Kriegsende bis in die 1960er Jahre
weitererzählt. Während er und seine Generation noch
weitgehend ungebildet waren und für sie der Kampf im
Zentrum stand, hat die nachfolgende Generation ganz
andere Pläne: Sein Neffe beginnt als Kurier zu arbeiten
und bringt es schließlich bis zum Arzt. Die aufwändige
Produktion des Films und der immense Arbeitsaufwand
dieser Pionierarbeit wurden beim 26. Filmfestival in Pula
gewürdigt.
According to director Besim Sahatçiu, THE WIND AND
THE OAK was the first film made “by Kosovars for
Kosovars”. Kosovar partisan Lisi (“The Oak”) fights here
against the fascists, during World War II. His story then
extends beyond the end of the conflict, into the 1960s.
While he and his generation were largely uneducated and
focussed on their epic struggle, the following generation
has totally different plans: Lisi's nephew begins his work
life as a courier and ends up becoming a successful doctor.
The film's elaborate production and the immense effort
that went into this trailblazing work were honoured in the
scope of Pula Film Festival's 26th edition.

1943. Die Italiener kapitulieren und verlassen Albanien,
deutsche Besatzer nehmen nun ihren Platz ein.
Kolonialwarenhändler Harun freundet sich mit einem
deutschen Offizier an, der oft bei ihm zu Gast ist. Zur
selben Zeit aber versteckt Harun den Partisanen Quasim,
den italienischen Soldaten Giulio und den jüdischen
Uhrmacher Hoakin in seinem Keller. Schwarzhumorig
und mit geschicktem Einsatz von Schostakowitsch‘
7. Sinfonie inszeniert Regisseur Gjergj Xhuvani diese
unglaubliche, auf den Kriegserfahrungen seines eigenen
Großvaters basierende Geschichte. (hg)
It's 1943: The Italians capitulate and withdraw from
Albania, as German occupiers take their place. Harun, a
merchant, befriends a German officer who enjoys paying
him visits. At the same time, however, Harun is hiding
partisan fighter Quasim, Italian soldier Giulio and Jewish
watchmaker Hoakin in his basement. Featuring copious
black humour and the adept deployment of Shostakovich's
7th Symphony, director Gjergj Xhuvani stages this
incredible story based on his own grandfather's real-life
experiences during the war.
