Seven connection-friendly digital module types
The barcode on the modules of the M100-I/O system can be read-out with
any commercially available smartphone
Bachmann‘s M100 I/O system offers seven different types of digital
I/O modules. This means that the M100 system can optimally meet
the most diverse requirements for digital signal transmission, the
Feldkirch-based company says. The bus coupler allows inputs and
outputs from different locations on the ship to be collected and used
over long distances. This significantly reduces the wiring effort and
sources of error. Visually, a 2D-QR code on the display panel is
noted at first glance. The 2D-QR code can be scanned with any
commercially available smartphone or tablet or with industrial
scanners. Device designation, part number, and serial number are
immediately displayed. Then a webLink to an extensive information
system enables one-click access to data sheet, wiring diagram, user
manual or other information concerning the module.
Module types with single-, two- or
three-core connection are available.
The module types with single-core
connection offer a maximum channel
density of up to 24 channels per
I/O slot. Sensor-specific cables can
be directly connected on the modules
with a two-core or three-core connection.
This eliminates shunting, reduces
wiring costs, and facilitates
troubleshooting and maintenance.
Freely adjustable digital filters
automatically debounce input contacts
and eliminate unwanted excitation
due to interference and
EMC events. The wide configuration
range allows optimum adaptation
to the task (dynamics) and
environment (interference). If inversions
of the switching logic are
necessary, there is no need to
change the wiring with consequential
costs for system documentation,
nor does this need to be taken into
account in the user program – the
software inversion can be carried out via configuration and is
automatically documented.
In the M100 I/O system, each I/O module has a highly accurate,
synchronized clock. The sampling time of the inputs or the consistent
setting of several outputs can therefore take place exactly cyclically
and at an optimum distance from the fieldbus cycle. And not
just on the same station, but even simultaneously distributed across
the network. In addition, digital value changes, including the time
stamp of the edge, can be evaluated – the 10 ns-resolved time stamp
allows exact differential time measurements and precise evaluation
of event sequences, because the I/O modules also record the input
value quasi-continuously between two fieldbus cycles. Like the binary
status, the time stamp is available to the application program
as a synchronous process value on request. For precise pre-controls
or pre-triggers, outputs can also be switched at a defined time outside
the fieldbus cycle. In addition to the increased precision, distributed
clocks and time stamps enable more exact process control
and high cycle times, even with slower fieldbus cycles.
All digital input modules have up to four counter units; this
means that cost-intensive special counters or position-sensor modules
are no longer needed for straight-forward counting tasks.
Moreover, external contactors can be dispensed with for many applications
in the lower power range: The PWM-capable digital outputs
can be switched in parallel multiple times and this enabels
multiplication of the switchable load currents. All relevant special
functions are directly integrated in the M100 I/O series, the modules
are powerful, cost-efficient thanks to the latest technology and
highly robust. The M100 has the usual certificates and can be used
in the shipbuilding industry thanks to its ship approvals.
