30 Years of Cutting-Edge Medicine
Founded in 1993 and now part of Bergman Clinics, the »Eye
Clinic Universitätsallee« is one of the most modern centres of excellence
for eye surgery and retinal diseases. As early as 1993 – 30
years ago – it was the first clinic in Germany to perform vitreoretinal
surgery as outpatient procedures. At that time, PD Dr. med.
Silvia Bopp, co-founder and head physician of the eye clinic, succeeded
in proving to the health insurance companies in a model
project that outpatient operations in this extremely demanding subspeciality
of ophthalmology can be carried out not only in a costsaving
manner without an inpatient stay of several days, but also
on a high quality level.
30 years later, the »Eye Clinic Universitätsallee« has performed
around 100,000 eye operations and almost 90,000 minor surgical
interventions. With the medical director Dr. med. Tobias Hübner
(FEBO) and the chief physicians PD Dr. med. Silvia Bopp and
PD Dr. med. Andreas Schüler, a team of a total of eight ophthalmologists
treats patients from all over Germany as well as many
other countries. In addition to their diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical
care at the highest level, the physicians at the clinic also aim
to offer innovative treatment methods and new surgical techniques.
Regular participation in national and international conferences,
teaching activities and publications of own scientific results are the
basis for constant progress in patient care at the clinic. In addition,
the transfer of knowledge from experienced colleagues to younger
colleagues remains a high priority. The advantage of many years of
know-how in modern treatment strategies contributes to a sustainable
medicine for the benefit of the patients.

says jubilarian private lecturer Dr. med. Silvia Bopp who was just
awarded with the Focus-Seal of Excellence for »Top physician for
retinal diseases« for the 14th time in a row.
