Goodway focuses on
pre-cured treads

Market is Consolidating
In the last few years the European retreading market
has become more and more interesting to companies
from outside of Europe. It is these companies in particular
that are able to hold their own against growing
competition from cheap imported new tyres from the
Far East, their position is at least better than that of
well-established European tread and material suppliers.
Their competitive advantage is lower prices
combined with a high level of quality. One of these
companies trying to benefit from the changing European
market situation is Goodway Integrated Industries
Bhd from Malaysia – retreader and manufacturer of retreading
materials. As explains Paolo Borgianni,
managing director of Goodway Europe, the European
retreading market will continue its process of consolidation
to the detriment of well-established companies
and to the benefit of companies such as Goodway
Europe, a company established as recently as 2005.
Malaysia based Goodway is not only a manufacturer and supplier
of pre-cured treads and rubber compounds for mouldcure
retreading and other technical applications. It is a retreader
itself and operates – since their takeover – the two Malaysian
retreaders Big Wheel (truck and OTR tyres) and Kilotrac Industries,
both of whom of course use Goodway’s “Supercool” treads and
other materials supplied by Goodway. The retreader Big Wheel is
the Malaysian domestic market leader with a market share of about
75 per cent. But Goodway not only produces pre-cured treads and
compounds for mould-cured retreading and uses these in its own retreading
facilities. Goodway also operates as a total system supplier
in its home market and in recent times also in the growing Chinese
retreading market. Under its “Simplex” brand Goodway offers a
“unique total retreading business system” in these countries and it
also plans to establish customers using the Simplex system in Thailand,
the Philippines and in Pakistan. The first part of the Simplex retreading
business system is the Simplex machinery designed by
Goodway’s very own technical team, the second is retreading knowhow
technical training Goodway provides for its customers, and the
third part is its tailored customer and marketing support. Every system
provided to a new retreader is “customised to meet each
individual need.” Everything’s provided, writes the company on its
website, to the extent that an investor could start a retreading facility
even if it had “zero knowledge in retreading.” Globally, the Goodway
group today has an annual turnover of 157 million Ringgit (2006;

Jahren für Unternehmen von außerhalb Europas
immer interessanter. Es sind gerade diese Unternehmen,
die durch ihre wettbewerbsfähigen Preise bei ansprechender
Produktqualität die Herausforderung im
Wettbewerb mit günstigen Neureifenimporten aus dem
Fernen Osten eher aufnehmen können als Materiallieferanten
aus Europa. Diesen vermeintlichen Wettbewerbsvorteil
in einem sich ändernden Markt will
auch der malaysische Runderneuerer und Hersteller
von Runderneuerungsmaterialien Goodway Integrated
Industries Bhd ausnutzen. Wie Paolo Borgianni, Geschäftsführer
der 2005 gegründeten europäischen Vertriebsgesellschaft
Goodway Europe, sagt, werde sich
der europäische Runderneuerungsmarkt in Zukunft
weiter konsolidieren – zulasten der etablierten Anbieter
und zugunsten von Unternehmen wie Goodway.
Das malaysische Unternehmen Goodway ist dabei nicht nur
Anbieter von Laufstreifen für die Kaltrunderneuerung bzw.
von Mischungen für die Heißerneuerung und andere technische
Anwendungen. Goodway ist selber auch Runderneuerer. So
betreibt das Unternehmen nach deren Übernahmen die beiden malaysischen
Runderneuerer Big Wheel (Lkw- und EM-Reifen) sowie
Kilotrac Industries, die natürlich Goodway-Laufstreifen der Marke
„Supercool“ und andere Materialien verwenden. Dabei verfügt Big
Wheel über einen Marktanteil von 75 Prozent auf dem heimischen
Markt in Malaysia. Goodway stellt aber nicht nur Laufstreifen und
Mischungen her und verarbeitet diese in den eigenen Runderneuerungsstätten.
Das Unternehmen fungiert ebenfalls als umfassender
Systemanbieter auf dem heimischen wie auch seit neuestem auf
dem wachsenden chinesischen Markt. Unter der Bezeichnung
„Simplex“ bietet Goodway in diesen beiden Ländern und bald auch
auf den Philippinen, in Pakistan und in Thailand ein „einzigartiges,
umfassendes Runderneuerungssystem“, zu dem erstens Simplex-
Runderneuerungsanlagen, die von der hauseigenen F&E-Abteilung
entwickelt und von Goodway selber gefertigt wurden, und zweitens
umfangreiche technische Schulungen für die Mitarbeiter des Systemnehmers
und drittens eine spezielle Unterstützung des Kunden in
Sachen Marketing gehören. Dabei werde das Simplex-Gesamtpaket
auf jeden Systemnehmer individuell zugeschnitten. Das System sei
