MODELMAKING

I consider myself a designer- craftsman, starting from form, detail and material,

and shaping this into my own visual language. Partly by building ideas with my

own hands. During my previous studies, I came into contact with different design

methods and developed a great fascination for 3D tools, structure and innovative

materials. I attempt to translate this interplay in the small scale, product design

as well as in my architectural expression.

INTERESTS

Travelling – and experiencing other cultures through architecture,

art and food.

Vintage furniture hunting and repairing it.

Hosting dinners.

We investigate the relationship

between the human scale, more

precisely a unit (hall-house-roomcolumn-wall-window-porch...)

and its

linking to the complex structure of a

large-scale programme. We seek out

the tension between communality

and intimacy, between interior and

urbanity, between mass and space.

In doing so, we strive to combine the

poetics and logic of building.

ZHUĀNG

Poetic stability in wood

- Architecture

This electiv made us think about how we can make poetry with structure. Under

the supervision of Guy Mouton, (engineer architect) and Klaas Goris (architect),

we designed a structure that fits into a particular Chinese landscape. We designed

a twisted tower constructed from a stack of beams.

Research on how a plot of

undeveloped land between the

docks and the centre of Ghent could

be converted into an area for new

industrial activity.

The building is designed for the

production of I-joist beams. Despite

the difficult shape of the area, we

could create a flexible free plan. The

shed consists of three parts: storage,

production workshop and offices.

SECTIONAL MODEL

3D-print & concrete cast

A design studio by architect Bruno Peters, who works on the urban development

in Qatar. This project is a study for the extension of the metro line between Doha

and Al Khor. In a society where almost everything happens by car, and where

public transport is not yet fully developed, I designed an inviting mobile hub

where the transfer between different types of transport could take place. The end

design consists of an underground metro station, where various circulations are

organized around patios. The three organic parasol structures provide shade and

shelter for the public square below.

THE BUILDING & THE CITY

Master thesis

- Architecture

The master thesis is based on a long tradition of working on heritage cities within

Europe and was created some decades ago by P. Robbrecht and M.J. Van Hee.

Central in this research project is the understanding of the interconnection of the

historical, social and cultural landscape of a European city with limited habitants

(more or less the scale of Ghent) After visit to Marseille, we are free to choose a

plot and develop a public program on site.

VERHAMME - DE VEL

Internship

Verhamme + De Vel Architects is a multi-purpose, design-oriented architectural

office with a strong focus on high-quality private residences, multi-family housing

and interior design, for a diverse clientele and clients. In their designs, Verhamme

+ De Vel Architects always aims for a contemporary design through space and

mass experience, pure, strong geometry, sober and natural materials, context

and tradition, sensory and the physical experience of the space and materials,

functionality, durability and comfort.

After my studies as an interior

designer, I felt like expending my

knowledge further with architecture.

I wanted to combine this study with

a part-time job in an architecture

office. That’s how I started working at

Verhamme-DeVel Architects. Thanks

to Marc Verhamme & Patrick De

Vel, I quickly came into contact with

various aspects of the design process,

as well as getting a feel for the way

things work at the office. During three

years I was able to work on several

assignments.

Usually in collaboration with the

managers or a project architect. I was

responsible for the design.

I made several 3D models, searched

for concepts, variations in facade

composition and design alternatives

on plan. I also helped a few times in

private competitions for multi-family

houses. Where the focus was on

visualizing the project, and convincing

the jury. Below a selection of the most

recentprojects I participated in.

GERO WONEN

Interior design for a furniture dealer

- Verhamme-De Vel

Gero is a furniture store located in a large industrial warehouse. The idea of

this design was to give this space a familiar atmosphere. With the most minimal

interventions possible. We did this by combining a wooden structure and linen

curtains that filter the natural daylight, and create a more intimate atmosphere.

The interior designers will also get a new reception area to welcome their

customers.

CLOVIS

Residential apartments & commercial property

- Verhamme-De Vel

Clovis is a butcher and caterer who needed to expand. In this project, I was

looking for an architecture that is open and clear, one that fits into its context.

These luxury apartments have a beautiful view of the square in Waregem. My

assignment in coordination with Marc Verhamme and the client, was to design

this multi-family house and the extension of the commercial area and to study

different facade compositions and floor plans.

- Verhamme-De Vel

The environmental context of the project site is today characterized by villa

neighborhoods around the former built-up plot of villa ‘Hazegras’ Knokke, with

a total site area of 24,027 m2. The client’s ambition is to develop a residential

project with 8,000 m2 of luxury apartments Architectural concept: An architectural

design with trampled facades on the example of a ziggurat. Natural, rich, massive

but sober materials that age nicely, patina and give off a solidity, mass, and beauty
