"Archival Counterrevolution" or Archival Progress? Russian Periodicals on<br />
the State <strong>of</strong> Russian Archives.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Russian weekly humanities review „Novoe Literatur<strong>no</strong>e Obozrenie“ (NLO) triggered <strong>of</strong>f a<br />
discussion about the accessability <strong>of</strong> Russian archive in present time. <strong>The</strong> issue Nr. 74 (August<br />
<strong>20</strong>05) was largely dedicated to a „system crisis“ <strong>of</strong> Russian archives and libraries and the<br />
worsening <strong>of</strong> working conditions for historians and other scientists, some authors even<br />
speaking <strong>of</strong> an „archival counterrevolution“ (N.P. Petrov). <strong>The</strong> various authors consider the<br />
restrictive archival policies counterproductive and even dangerous, as they alter historical<br />
memory.<br />
As a sort <strong>of</strong> reply, the bi-monthly <strong>of</strong>ficial periodical <strong>of</strong> the Russian archive administration,<br />
„Otečestvennye Archivy“, dedicated a large part <strong>of</strong> the Nr. 1 (<strong>20</strong>06) issue on this question.<br />
Referring directly to the NLO publication, the authors appreciate the general interest <strong>of</strong><br />
intellectuals for the fate <strong>of</strong> the Russian archives, but all in all they contradict the te<strong>no</strong>r <strong>of</strong> the<br />
„archival counterrevolution“ and accuse the NLO authors <strong>of</strong> sensationalism and unnecessary<br />
panic.<br />

Von der polnischen Regierungspartei PiS ("Recht und Gerechtigkeit") wurde eine<br />
Gesetzesvorlage eingebracht, die das Ziel verfolgt, den polnischen Angehörigen der<br />
<strong>International</strong>en Brigaden die staatliche Anerkennung als Kriegsveteranen und damit einen<br />
wichtigen Teil ihrer Existenzgrundlage (nachträglich) zu entziehen (Terra EFE, 17.4.<strong><strong>20</strong>07</strong>).<br />
Begründet wird dies damit, daß viele polnische Interbrigadisten aus der Brigade "Dombrowski"<br />
("Dąbrowski") sich später an der Errichtung des stalinistischen Regimes in Polen beteiligt, und,
