DIVERSITY IN CARE –<br />

at Tertianum Care this is part of everyday life.<br />

The mobile nursing service Tertianum Care from Berlin has just signed the “Charta der<br />

Vielfalt” (Charter of Diversity). In addition to diversity-sensitive care, the company is making<br />

a strong statement with this voluntary commitment to an appreciative and unprejudiced<br />

working environment. As early as 2020, Tertianum Care was one of six companies in<br />

Germany to receive the "Lebensort Vielfalt®" seal, the seal of quality of diversity.<br />

Tertianum Care signed the voluntary commitment<br />

"Charter of Diversity" for more diversity in<br />

the workplace and thus joined more than 4,000<br />

companies in Germany. From small businesses<br />

to global corporations – the charter has changed<br />

the working lives of millions of employees. Apart<br />

from the obvious aim to improve the employee’s<br />

lives, having an appreciative and unprejudiced<br />

working environment also can benefit the<br />

company as:<br />

• diversity helps to compensate for the<br />

shortage of skilled workers.<br />

• new target groups and markets can be<br />

developed with a diverse workforce.<br />

• mixed teams produce better solutions<br />

and more innovative products.<br />

Diversity has many dimensions: age, ethnic origin<br />

and nationality, gender and gender identity,<br />

physical and mental abilities, religion and belief,<br />

sexual orientation and social background.<br />

Why is diversity in the team and<br />

among the clients so important?<br />

The diversity of people, lifestyles, and ways of<br />

life also require diversity-sensitive care, but until<br />

2018 no nursing service in Berlin had offered<br />

this. People often experienced an insensitive<br />

handling of their identity – they were in need but<br />

not helped. Tertianum Care has recognized this<br />

deficit and integrated diversity as a core value<br />

in the company philosophy and in the corporate<br />

mission statement. Since then, all employees<br />

have lived this goal together with the people<br />

humanity make our job something special.<br />

We don’t just convince with words,<br />

but actions. The Charter of Diversity<br />

unites a community with one goal: to<br />

create a climate of mutual respect and<br />

trust. This will have a positive impact on<br />

our organisation and on society.“<br />

to be cared for. The signing of the "Charter of<br />

Diversity" and the certification as a "Lebensort<br />

Vielfalt®" for the successful integration of sexual<br />

and gender minorities (an award from the Berlin<br />

Schwuleberatung, which is funded by the PKV<br />

and the German AIDS Foundation) are important<br />

building blocks and at the same time a signal for<br />

those inside and outside.<br />

The Tertianum Care Team deals openly with the<br />

individual biographies of employees and clients<br />

and is trained in LGBTI-sensitive care. Signing<br />

the Diversity Charter is a step towards living diversity<br />

in day-to-day working life. The Tertianum<br />

Care team is convinced that demographic and<br />

social change can only succeed if the existing<br />

diversity is recognised, promoted, and used.<br />
