SystemsX.ch is a research consortium with eight<br />
universities and three research institutions. About 80<br />
research groups devoted to Systems Biology<br />
collaborate in eight Research-, Technology- and<br />
Development programs. Presently, SystemsX.ch<br />
consists of the <strong>ETH</strong> Zurich, the EPF Lausanne, the<br />
Universities of Basel Basel, Bern Bern, Geneva Geneva, Fribourg Fribourg,<br />
Lausanne and Zurich, the Friedrich-Miescher Institute,<br />
the Paul Scherrer Institute, and Swiss Institute of<br />
Bioinformatics. The initiative is open to new partners if<br />
they have proven scientific track records in one or more<br />
areas of the Systems Biology. SystemsX.ch is funded<br />
with a federal budget of CHF 100 Mio for the period of<br />
<strong>2008</strong> - 2011. Federal money is available only on a<br />
matching funds basis, meaning that the partners have<br />
to invest the same sum themselves in order to receive<br />
funds. This way the total investment in Systems Biology<br />
will be at least CHF 200 Mio for <strong>2008</strong> – 2011,<br />
supplemented by third-party funds by industry and<br />
other funding agencies.<br />
