OUR ETHOSCHILDREN W HOFEEL VALUEDInaschoolofover1500students,itisimportantthateachindividualfeelssecure,confidentandvalued.Ourpastoralsystem isdesignedtodojustthat.“INVESTINGIN YOUNGPEOPLEINVESTINGIN THEFUTURE”6Onentrytoourschool,eachstudentisalocated to one of four houses:StBernadete,StCatherineLaboure,StJohnFisherorStTherese.WorkingunderthegeneralcoordinationofaHeadofHouse,eachtutorhaspastoralresponsibilityforagroupofaround30students.Throughaplanned pastoralprogramme,the tutoraddresesthesocialandemotionalneedsofstudentsandsupporttheirlearninganddevelopment.Progresinlearningisalsoenhancedbyasystem oftargetsetingsupportedbyateam ofPastoralstafwhoensurethateachindividualisprovidedwiththenecesaryhelptoachievetheirpotential.Esentialtothevaluingoftheindividualisthesystem ofPRAISE,wherebystudentsareawardedmeritsforacademicandsocialachievementsetagainstabackgroundofhealthyinter-housecompetition.Studentscouldalsoreceivepraisepostcardsoraphone calhome from their teacherscongratulatingthem ontheirhardwork.Contributionstothelifeofthehouseandtherefore the school,be they physical,mentalorspiritualare also recognisedthroughthePRAISEsystem ensuringthattheachievementofeachstudentcanbeacknowledged irespective of academicability.SPECIALEDUCATIONALNEEDS ANDDISABILITIESTheSchool’sprovisionforchildrenwithSpecialEducationalNeedsand Disabilities(SEND)aimsto:*CreateanenvironmentwhereSENDchildrenfeelwelcomeandwherespecialneedsarerecognisedandaddresed*Integratestudentsintothefullifeoftheschoolandprovideaccestoabroadandbalanced curiculum which meetstheirneeds*Seektominimise,asfarasposible,thebarierstolearning*SeektomakethenecesaryprovisiontomaximisetheperformanceofstudentswithadditionalneedsOurSEN studentsdowel.ThemajorityofourYear11studentsreturnto SixthForm orsecureaplaceatalocalcolege.Weareveryproud of this achievement and theircommitmenttocontinuingeducation.AcopyoftheSEND policyisavailableontheschoolwebsite.

Ourguidancesystem isdesignedtosupplementthatoferedbycaringparents. Wetrustthatvaluesaresharedatbothhomeandschoolasweseektodoourbestforouryoungpeople.Weaskforparentalsupportinthefolowingareas:*Regularandpunctualatendanceisesentialifpupilsaretoachievetheirbest* Ensuring that homework is completedsatisfactorilyandontimehelpsensureefectivedeliveryofthecuriculum*MembershipoftheStThomasMoreAsociationofersparentsandteacherstheopportunitytoco-operateinsocialandfundraisingeventsforthegeneralgood ofour school.Alparents areencouragedto supportourcharitableandfundraisingefortsasweseektofulfilourChristianMisionApproximatelyevery10weeksparentswilreceiveashortreportoftheirchild’sprogresandtheyareencouragedtosupporttheirchildinformingfuturetargets.Onceperyearthereisamoreextensiveacademicreportfolowedbyaparents’evening.The spiritual dimension is of fundamentalimportancetothelifeofourschool.InadditiontotimetabledReligiousEducationlesons,eachsesionofeachdaybeginsandendswithanactofcolectiveworship. Thismaytaketheform ofaSchoolorHouseasemblyorashortactofworshipconductedundertheguidanceofthepastoraltutororclasteacherasappropriate.Each memberofstafiscommited to thedevelopmentoftheCatholicethosoftheschool.TheGovernorsremindparentsoftheirrighttowithdrawtheirchildrenfrom religiouseducationandworship.Parentsarealsoreminded,however,that the school exists to provide aCatholic/Christianeducationforitspupilsandthereforeparentsareexpectedtobeinsympathywithitsaimsandobjectives.SEX EDUCATIONEducationonsexualmaterswilincludeboththemoralandphysicalaspectsofthistopicandwilbe covered in ReligiousEducation andBiologylesonswhereappropriate,inasuitablecontextandwithinthegeneralreligiousandmoralatitude ofthe school. Itprovidesknowledgeabouttheprocesesofreproductionandthenatureofsexualityandrelationships.Itencouragestheacquisitionofatitudeswhichalowsstudentstomanagetheirrelationshipsinaresponsibleandhealthymanner.Parentsmaywithdrawtheirchildrenfrom alorpartofthesexeducationprovided.7
